Casual, comfortable, classy and cute, the T-shirt dress helps to make any closet complete!

Named the T-shirt dress due to the shape of the garment’s outline, resembling the letter T, the T-shirt dress has caught on as the dress is easily fitted, easily cleaned, inexpensive and stylish. And did I mention comfortable? Yes I did, but I’ll say it again. When wearing a T-shirt dress, the wearer feels fashionable and modern, while comfy and cozy at the same time!

T-shirt dresses are normally associated with short sleeves, a round neckline, and no collar. However, there are T-shirt dresses that consist of long sleeves, buttons, collars and v-necks.

T-shirt dresses are typically made of cotton fibers, knitted together in a jersey stitch that gives a T-shirt dress its distinctive soft texture. However, there are certain T-shirt dresses that are made of lace, etc., but fit the mold of the T-shirt dress merely by the cut of the garment.

The majority of T-shirt dresses have a body that is made from a continuously woven tube, so the torso has no side seams. This is accomplished with special weaving machines called circular looms, which produce seamless fabric for tube tops, stockings, etc. Conventional stitching is used for the waist band, neck band, sleeves and to close the shoulders.

T-shirt Fun Fact: T-shirts were originally worn as undershirts in the 19th century. Now T-shirts are frequently worn as the only piece of clothing on the top half of the body. The T-shirt dress evolved from this fashion statement, and you can find the T-shirt dress in various lengths, from mini to maxi.

Most T-shirt dresses slip on over the head and shoulders without buttons or zippers. The cotton material stretches and allows the garment to pull on and off easily.

T-shirt dresses, when worn with feminine accessories and high heels, look exceptionally fashionable, due to the popularity and comfort of the casual dress, classing the outfit up with fancier jewelry, shoes and handbags!

Since the 1980s, T-shirts have flourished as a form of personal expression. Why not express yourself and your unique personality through your T-shirt dress? From happy faces, to Mickey Mouse, to phrases and expressions, T-shirt dresses can allow you to make a statement!

Other methods of decoration used on T-shirt dresses include airbrush, embroidery, impressing or embossing, and the ironing on of letters or dye-sublimation transfers. Remember the infamous tie dyes, where the wearer walked around with all of the colors of the rainbow painted onto their clothing?

Fashion is fantastically fun!

White T-shirt Fun Fact: The white T-shirt saw an increase in popularity after the actor Don Johnson wore one with an Armani suit in the television series Miami Vice.

The most common form of commercial T-shirt and T-shirt dress decoration is screen-printing. In screen-printing, a design is separated into individual colors. Plastisol or water based inks are applied to the shirt or dress through mesh screens, which limits the area where the ink is deposited.

No matter the color, no matter the length, T-shirt dresses are a staple of fashion that are here to stay in a very big way!

Who said T-shirts go best with jeans? T-shirts go best as a dress, with bare legs, rocking shoes and a confident strut!
