If “these boots are made for walking” it couldn’t be more true than on the 2018 Fall/Winter catwalk! This season boots of sparkling gold are all the rage. A definite throw back to the 1980s and 1990s fashions are reappearing in 2018!

A boot is a type of footwear and a specific type of shoe. Most boots mainly cover the foot and the ankle, while some also cover some part of the lower calf. Knee high boots and thigh high boots extend up the leg, to the knee, or over the knee covering some or most of the thigh. My oh my, gold boots that are thigh high look long enough to touch the sky!

Most boots have a heel that is clearly distinguishable from the rest of the sole, even if the two are made of one piece. Traditionally made of leather or rubber, modern boots are made from a variety of materials. Early boots consisted of separate leggings, soles, and uppers worn together to provide greater ankle protection than shoes or sandals. Around 1000 BC, these components were more permanently joined to form a single unit that covered the feet and lower leg, often up to the knee.

Boots are gorgeous in all colors, but gold boots take the gold star. The color gold represents success, achievement and triumph. Associated with abundance and prosperity, luxury and quality, prestige and sophistication, value and elegance, the psychology of the color gold implies affluence, material wealth and extravagance.

These gold boots are made for walking down paths of pure gold!

Most people that hear the word makeover consider it a radical change in appearance. In the world of beauty and fashion, a makeover may imply a change in clothing, your hairstyle or cosmetics. A complete personal makeover might also include cosmetic surgery. For the faint of heart that wants to avoid all surgeries and look gorgeous, refreshed and youthful no matter your age, allow Mobile Styles to take center stage!

Let’s be honest! Beauty, health and vitality matters. For many people, cosmetic makeovers, or simply wearing the right touch of makeup to keep you looking natural and rested, is an integral part of your daily routine. Even for those of you that prefer a makeup free face, swiping your eyelashes with mascara and coating your lips with clear gloss or nude shades of lipstick is something you do everyday.

Make no bones about it, cosmetic makeovers are admired, fun and adored by all. Makeovers are so revered in today’s culture that they have become popular television subjects. Beauty generally entails cultural perception, or individual views of a person’s preference. Much like some people prefer chocolate ice cream and others prefer vanilla, some women adore wearing heavy makeup, while others go with light makeup or none at all. For those of you who prefer a natural look, only applying a light concealer and foundation in the morning can do wonders for the appearance of your skin, making you look rested, youthful and virtually makeup free. Me personally, I love the glamour girl look. A complete cosmetic makeover can include concealer, foundation, eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, eyebrow liner and a chic, colorful lipstick. I find the full makeup look to be especially beautiful when applied to perfection. Even false eyelashes can look like sheer heaven!

Bat your baby eyes and make them look twice their size simply by applying lots of heavy black mascara or a set of long false eyelashes.

Fashion boots equals boots at their finest! Perhaps one style of boot that always stands out and is always in style is the high heeled ankle boot. Ankle boots are the most widely worn style of fashion boots for women, worn both under pants and with skirts and dresses. Ankle boots can vary in length from booties or shoe booties (shoes that skim the ankle) to boots that cover the lower part of the calf.

The defining characteristic of the boot is the length of the shaft. For those of you that adore wearing boots, you’re probably familiar with boots having various shaft lengths, including a shaft that follows the curve of your calf, straight legged, loose fitting or slouchy. With ankle boots, the shaft is shorter, going to or slightly above the ankle.

Ankle Boot Fun Fact: Ankle boots generally have a shaft height of less than 8 inches (20cm). In the 19th and early 20th century, ankle boots were common footwear for women. Even with rising dress hemlines, ankle boots add a cute, youthful, playful look and feel to the overall outfit.

While many ankle boots are made of leather and/or patent leather, some boots are also adorned with decorative features such as elaborate stitching and fur trims.

Sometimes, when it comes to shoes, only a high heeled ankle boot will do!

Popular Boot Designs:

  1. Ankle Boot
  2. Calf Length Boot
  3. Knee Length Boot
  4. Over the Knee Boot
  5. Thigh High Boot

Of course, various types of boots include combat boots, cowboy boots, construction boots, Russian boots, Ugh boots, vinyl boots, go-go boots and more!

Boots, boots, boots galore!

Fashion Boots Fun Fact: Although fashion boots and particularly go-go boots are often described as “typical” of 1960s fashion, it wasn’t until the 1970s that boots became a mainstream staple of women’s fashion. By contrast, in 1977, boots made up approximately 20 percent of all women’s shoe sales in the United States. The end of the decade saw fashion boots occupying pages of mainstream mail-order catalogs by companies such as Sears, Wards and Kays.

Exquisite women’s fashion boots of the 1960s and 1970s are just as trendy today!

Have you ever wondered if wearing boots feels cumbersome and bulky, or how people strut easily when their feet and legs are poured into boots? In close fitting boots, flexibility is achieved by the use of gussets: slits in the material either at the top of the shaft (in knee length boots) or wider panels at the sides of the shaft (in ankle boots), which are backed with elasticized fabric. Compression folds around the ankle allow for movement of the foot. In thigh high boots, flexion of the knee is usually attained by a vent at the back of the boot, running from the top of the shaft to the back of the knee. This may be closed with laces, elastic or left open.

Where a vent isn’t used, freedom of movement is achieved by either having the top of the shaft flare outwards above the knee, or making all or part of the shaft out of a stretchable material.

Come one, come all, let’s dance the boot scoot boogie in cowboy boots and high heeled ankle boots…stand tall!

Ankle boots are chic, cool, popular footwear for girls and women everywhere!

“That stiletto boot you’re wearing is delightful to the eye.”

“They’re so fun to wear. I feel like I can touch the sky.”

“The black vinyl boots decorated with rhinestone studs adds immense style.”

“And with the platform sole, I can strut and easily walk a mile.”

“You possess such exquisite fashion taste. Especially in the shoe.”

“There are times only a gorgeous high heeled ankle boot will do!’

High Heeled Ankle Boot: You’ll want to walk farther than a mile in your shoes! That’s true!

Grunge fashion is the clothing, accessories and hairstyles of the grunge music genre and subculture which emerged in mid-1980s Seattle, and had reached wide popularity by the early 1990s. Embraced by Generation X as anti-fashion, grunge contrasts from the flashy excessiveness of the 1980s. Grunge fashion is characterized by durable and timeless thrift-store clothing, often worn in a loose, androgynous manner to de-emphasize the human physique/silhouette.

The grunge style of clothing was popularized by music artists Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love and Pearl Jam.

Grunge Fun Fact: The term grunge was adopted by the music industry for a style of music that had become widely popular in the American northwest during the early 1990s. The term grunge first appeared in 1972, but it didn’t become a used term in widespread media until the late 1980s, influenced by the surge and decline of punk. This view made its mark on the youth of the time and translated into their choice of fashion.

The grunge fashion look started out as a combination of male and female fashion, consisting of mundane everyday clothing that could be worn everywhere. Grunge consisted of such garments as oversized striped sweaters, ripped jeans, converse tennis shoes, and unkempt hair. As grunge fashion entered the mainstream, flannel shirts and Doc Martens boots were worn as anti-fashion statements.

Grunge clothing returns with fashion action!

In women’s fashion in the 1990s, less was more and dressing down was an acceptable norm. For shoes, women started wearing clunky combat boots and Doc Martens. They typically wore slip dresses with flannels, flannels and ripped jeans, and plaid garments in layers. The clothing was paired with simple jewelry such as chokers and hoop earrings, along with dark, rich colored lipsticks. Bell bottom jeans from the 1970s came back into grunge fashion, along with baby doll T-shirts. When flannels were worn, they were oversized or tied around the waist. Hairstyles included the half-up, half-down style, and messy hair highlighted the grunge look.

Grunge Fun Fact: Fashion designer Marc Jacobs was the first designer who brought grunge to the luxury platform. In 1992, Jacobs, as the creative director of women’s design at Perry Ellis, debuted a spring collection that was inspired by grunge. The collection included some iconic grunge lines such as flannel shirts, printed grassy dresses, Doc Martens boots and knitted skullcaps. This collection became a badge of cool to the grunge culture. A few years later in 1997, Jacobs joined the French luxury brand Louis Vuitton.

Grunge clothing as a true fashion statement marches on!

Grunge Fun Fact: Grunge in men’s fashion is popular and making a mainstream comeback. Grunge is influenced by disheveled and androgynous thrift-store clothing, defined by a looseness that de-emphasizes the body’s shape. The male grunge look consists of second hand or shabby T-shirts with slogans, band logos, etc. A plaid shirt generally accompanies the T-shirt, along with ripped or faded jeans. Black combat style boots top off the outfit. Basically, the clothing is inexpensive, durable and timeless. It also runs against the grain of the flashy aesthetics in fashion that existed in the 1980s.

Grunge fashion is pure fashion fun for all generations…fashion king and queens everyone!

Grunge Today: According to a 2013 Today magazine article, the 1990s grunge is making a comeback after New York Fashion Week (NYFW), when designers shared their interpretations of Seattle’s early 1990s boho chic. This led to grunge fashion appearing in shopping malls and grunge inspired back to school looks, helping to bring the grunge look back in style today.

As fashion and music often mix, much like models and rock stars often marry, grunge fashion was born from the grunge subculture of alternative rock during the mid 1980s. The early grunge movement revolved around Seattle’s independent record label Sub Pop, and that region’s underground music scene. By the early 1990s, the popularity of grunge music had spread, with grunge bands appearing in California, then emerging in other parts of the United States and Australia, building strong followings and signing major record deals.

A byproduct of grunge music? A passion for wearing grunge fashion!

From haute couture to grunge…there is no denying that dressed down, comfortable, non-conforming grunge fashion can appeal to everyone!

“I love your ensemble of loose fitted clothes and ripped up jeans.”

“Whether I’m dressed for the Oscars or dressed in grunge, I am a fashion queen!”

“You carry the grunge style off as if the look is timeless and effortless.”

“I adorn myself in grunge in either flannels, skirts and boots or a baby doll dress.”

“My tastes tend to run more dressy and upscale. I doubt the grunge look will work on me.”

“Anyone can acclimate their style to the recognizable grunge look. Try it and see!”

Grunge: An off-beat, trendy mode of dress that works for everyone, is stylish and fun!

If it’s all in the eyes, and the eyes are the windows to our souls, why not draw from the magnetism, mystery and hard-to-read feline that is the cat? Cats very much beat to their own drum, and live their nine lives on their own terms, answering to none!

Everyone, even if you aren’t a cat lover, are drawn into cats’ eyes! Mysterious, mesmerizing and wise!

In the realm of fashion and cosmetics, the cat eye is a dramatic, classic look that often takes time and practice to master to perfection. The flick, or wing, is the toughest, but by far the most important, part of creating the perfect cat eye. With the help of eye shadow, mascara, and the infamous eyeliner, you can wear the alluring, appealing, coveted cat eye to sheer magnetic genius.

The cosmetic item that makes the distinct cat eye like no other is all in the eyeliner. Heavy, thick, usually black eyeliner, drawn out as the flick or the wing.

Eyeliner Fun Fact: Eyeliner is a cosmetic used to define the eyes. It is applied around the contours of the eye(s) to create a variety of aesthetic effects. Eyeliner was first used in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia as a dark black line around the eyes. As early as 10,000 BC, Egyptians and Mesopotamians wore various cosmetics, including eyeliner, not only for visual effect but to protect the skin from the desert sun. The characteristic of having heavily lined eyes has been frequently depicted in ancient Egyptian art.

The Cat Eye: Slinky, sultry, sensational!

How to Make the Dramatic Cat Eye with Eyeliner:

  1. Put on the eye shadow of your choice, starting at the lash line and extending out to the crease of the eye.
  2.  Find the right angle for your wing (the extended line made with eyeliner that gives a slimming, catlike appearance to the eye).
  3. Make a dot to indicate the tip of your wing on each eye.
  4. Draw a line connecting the dot to the outer corner of your eye.
  5. Draw another line connecting the dot to the middle of your upper lash line.
  6. Fill in the outline you have made.
  7. Clean up any mistakes with a pointed Q-tip.
  8. Draw a thin line along your upper lash line, beginning at the inside corner of your eye, near your tear duct.
  9. Thicken the line as it gets closer toward the outer corner of your eye.
  10. Extend the eyeliner past the corner of your eyes.
  11. Finish with heavy, thick black mascara for a look that is provocative, sexy and dramatic!

Cat Eye Tip: If you have a round eye try a thicker wing and line. If you prefer to extend your lash line and make your eyes look bigger, draw a curved line instead of a straight line. Make sure that the line is curving downward!

How to perfect cat eyes to the cats meow!

The perfect cat eye is all in the eyeliner!

Eyeliner Fun Fact: Eyeliner is commonly used in a daily makeup routine to define the eye and/or create the look of a wider or smaller eye. Eyeliner can be used as a tool to create various looks, as well as highlighting different features of the eyes. Eyeliner can be placed in various parts of the eye to create different looks with a winged eyeliner or tight lined at the waterline.

Tight lining is the use of eyeliner against the waterline and under the lashes of the upper lid, and above the lashes of the lower lid. Tight lining is a technique which makes the eyelashes appear to start father back on the eyelid, thus making them look longer. Gel eyeliner and a small angled brush work best to create this look.

Eyeliner can be drawn above upper lashes or below lower lashes, or both. Eyeliner’s primary purpose it is to make the lashes look lush and long, but it also draws attention to the eye, and can enhance or even change the eye’s shape.

Eyeliner Fun Fact: Eyeliner is available in a wide range of hues, from the common black (mega-dramatic), brown, gray, bright primary colors, pastels, frosty silvers, golds and glitter-flecked colors.

Slink yourself into any room in any town with a dramatic, mysterious cat eye wing in a daring black or brown!

Cat eyes are simply stunning!

In order to make the most exquisite, energizing cat eye, your eyeliner should be clearly defined. Save a smudged or lighter eyeliner for a more subtle, yet still beautiful, eye.

The Five Main Types of Eyeliner Available on the Market:

  1. Gel Eyeliner: A softer, gel liner.
  2. Kohl Eyeliner: A soft powder available in dark matte shades.
  3. Liquid Eyeliner: An opaque liquid that usually comes in a small bottle and is typically applied with a small sharp-tipped brush.
  4. Powder Based Eyeliner:  Eyeliner that comes in a wood pencil.
  5. Wax Based Eyeliner: Pencils are softer pencils and contain waxes that ease application.

Whichever eyeliner you choose, whichever wing type you prefer, when drawing the perfect cat eyes, you’ll create a sultry purr!

Traditional wax based eyeliners are made from about 20 components. Stearyl heptanoate is found in most cosmetic eyeliner. Typical pigments include black iron oxide, as well as smaller amounts of titanium dioxide and Prussian blue.

“I think I’ll spend my time at home tonight attempting to master the cat.”

“I saw you as a dog lover…I would have never guessed cat. Imagine that!”

“You know I’m a true glamour girl. I’m referring to drawing on the perfect cat eyes.”

“The trick is all in the eyeliner. Black, heavy, dramatic, thick, altering the eye size.”

“The perfect cat eye needs the wing or the flick to extend out past the corner of the eye.”

“I believe you’ll master the mysterious, alluring, sultry cat eye on your very first try!”

Cat Eyes: No matter your skin type, skin tone, eye shape or eye color, if you enter the party with marvelous cat eyes you’ll stand out like no other!

Just like your body requests water to quench thirst, hydrate your body and stay healthy, your skin requests water and moisture to stay soft, smooth and blemish free. A great way to feed your facial skin from the outside is with a relaxing, nourishing facial.

A facial is a family of skin care treatments for the face, including steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels and massages. Facials are often performed in beauty salons, but are also a common spa treatment. Then there are the easy yet rewarding do it yourself facials, which you can perform in the privacy of your own home.

Facials are used for general skin health, as well as to treat specific skin conditions. Popular types of facials include the European facial, LED light therapy facials and mini-facials.

Facial Fun Fact: There are different types of facial masks (cactus, cucumber, etc.) used for different purposes:

  1. Deep Cleansing: Penetrates the pores, healing acne scars or hyper-pigmentation.
  2. Brightening: Brings a gradual illumination to your skin tone.

Some masks are designed to dry or solidify on the face, almost like plaster, while other masks remain wet. The perceived effects of a facial mask treatment include revitalizing, healing and refreshing the skin, yielding temporary and long term benefits.

Facial Mask Fun Fact: Facial masks are removed by either rinsing the face with water, wiping off with a damp cloth, or peeling a dry mask off the face. Duration for wearing a mask varies with the type of mask, and manufacturers’ usage instructions. The time of wearing the mask can range from a few minutes to overnight.  Facial masks can be found anywhere from drugstores to fine department stores, as well as beauty supply stores and salons.  Facial masks vary in consistency and form, depending on the ingredients.

Facial Moisturizer Fun Fact: A large part of the success of the facial is the type of moisturizers used. Moisturizers or emollients are complex mixtures of chemical agents (often occlusives help hold water in the skin after application, humectants attract moisture and emollients help smooth the skin), specifically designed to make the external layers of the skin softer and more pliable. Moisturizers increase the skin’s hydration (water content) by reducing evaporation.

How to Give a Facial or a Do It Yourself Facial:

  1. Start with a clean, makeup free face.
  2. Take a close look at your skin, preferably with a lamp over your face, or bright lighting. Determine the skin type: normal, dry, combination, oily.
  3. Massage your face gently with your fingertips.
  4. Steam the pores on your face using a steamer and/or very hot water.
  5. Take a paint brush or a spatula and apply a mineral rich mud or clay mask, and smooth it all over the face.
  6. Leave the beauty mask on for approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
  7. Wash, rinse or peel the mask off.
  8. Apply a skin toner or astringent to the face.
  9. Apply moisturizer to the skin.
  10. Give a light spray of water to the skin to hydrate the skin.
  11. The facial is complete and your face looks youthful, radiant and glowing!

Moisturizers prevent and treat dry skin, protect sensitive skin, improve skin tone and texture and mask imperfections.

Preservation of Skin Types with Moisturizers:

  1. Normal Skin: Moisturizers can be used to prevent the skin from becoming too dry or oily, such as with light, non greasy water-based moisturizers. Such moisturizers often contain lightweight oils, such as cetyl alcohol, or silicone derived ingredients, such as cyclomethicone.
  2. Dry Skin: For treating skin dryness, the most appropriate moisturizers are heavier, oil based moisturizers that contain ingredients such as antioxidants, grape seed oil or dimethicone. For very dry, cracked skin, petroleum based products are preferable, as they are longer lasting than creams and are more effective in preventing water evaporation.
  3. Oily Skin: For oily skin, moisturizers can still be useful after activities causing skin dryness. For oily skin, water based moisturizers that are specifically non-comedogenic are preferable.
  4. Aging Skin: Appropriate moisturizers to keep aging skin soft and well hydrated are oil based ones that contain petrolatum as the base, along with antioxidants or alpha hydroxy acids against wrinkles.
  5. Sensitive Skin: On sensitive skin, (skin susceptible to skin irritations, redness, itching or rashes), it is preferable to use moisturizers which contain soothing ingredients such as chamomile or aloe, and that minimize potential allergens such as fragrances or dyes.

Sometimes less truly is more…especially when you’re dolling up for an evening out and your choice is an eye stopping, alluring miniskirt.
A miniskirt is a skirt with a hemline well above the knees, generally at mid-thigh level, normally no longer than 4 inches (10 cm) below the buttocks. A dress with such a hemline is called a minidress, or a miniskirt dress. A micro-miniskirt or microskirt is a miniskirt with the hemline at the upper thigh.
Miniskirt: A skirt so short with thighs so high you truly touch the sky!

Short skirts have existed for many years, though they were generally not called “mini” or became a real fashion trend until the 1960s. Instances of clothing resembling miniskirts have been identified by archaeologists and historians as far back as 1390-1370 BCE. In the early 20th century, the dancer Josephine Baker’s banana skirt that she wore for her mid-1920s performances in the Folies Bergere was subsequently likened to a miniskirt.

The miniskirt for maximum effect!
Miniskirt Fun Fact: Hemlines were just above the knee in 1961, and gradually climbed upward over the next few years. By 1966, some designs had the hem at the upper thigh. Stockings worn with suspenders or garter belts were not considered practical with miniskirts and were replaced with colored tights or opaque stockings. The popular acceptance of miniskirts as mainstream apparel peaked in the ‘swinging London’ of the 1960s, and has continued to be commonplace in fashion, particularly among younger women and teenage girls. Before that time short skirts were only seen in sport and dance clothing, such as skirts worn by female tennis players, figure skaters, cheerleaders and dancers.
Ooh la la, the miniskirt. Rah, rah, rah!

Miniskirt Fun Fact: Several designers have been credited with the invention of the 1960s miniskirt, most significantly the London based designer Mary Quant and the Parisian designer Andre Courreges. Although Quant reportedly named the skirt after her favorite make of car, the Mini, there is no consensus as to who designed the flashy skirt first. Valerie Steele has noted that the claim that Quant was first is more convincingly supported by evidence than the equivalent Courreges claim. However, the contemporary fashion journalist Marit Allen, who edited the influential “Young Ideas” pages for UK Vogue, firmly stated that the British designer John Bates was the first designer to offer fashionable miniskirts. Other great designers, such as Pierre Cardin and Yves Saint Laurent, had also been raising hemlines at the same time
No matter the designer, no matter the brand…as a true fashion diva the sexy, leg showing miniskirt deserves a congratulatory hand!

Nancy Mangano’s Fashion Fun Tip: Miniskirts look especially cute and alluring when worn with a high heeled ankle boot or a stiletto heel or pump. The higher the heel and the shorter the skirt, the more eye popping the look! And isn’t that the main goal of the miniskirt? To open eyes, turn heads and show off legs for days!
Stop traffic as you walk across the street when draped in a darling miniskirt and high high heels on your feet! A delightful eye candy treat!
Skirt sweet!

Miniskirt Not So Fun Fact: In the early 21st century, miniskirts were still seen as controversial, and remain subject to bans and regulations. Valerie Steele told the BBC in 2014 that even though miniskirts no longer had the power to shock in most Western cultures, she would hesitate to wear one in most parts of the world.
Whether your choice is a miniskirt or a maxi skirt, when donned in a flamboyant and playful miniskirt be prepared to flirt, flirt, flirt!

What’s that you say? The miniskirt is a surefire fashion hit all the way!
“I feel I need to tell you that the bottom of your skirt has fallen off.”
“My skirt hemline is sewn this short…a look that’s sexy and tough.”
“I do believe I like the look…less fabric truly is more.”
“And my legs are long and lean…legs to truly adore.”
“What do you call a skirt that is so short yet adorable all in one?”
“The miniskirt. A definite fashion A+ whether at home or on the run!”
Miniskirt: A fashion hit out of the ball park every time. A winner skirt, truly sublime!
