Contour, Contour, Contour!

Contour is a word we often hear in the world of beauty. It relates to makeup procedures, but what exactly is contouring? Contouring is a magical cosmetic technique that can give you the cheekbones of Angelina Jolie and enhance the natural shape of your face. Contouring goes hand-in-hand with highlighting.

Contouring is produced by placing a warm or cool toned color that is two shades darker than your skin color in areas such as the hollows of the cheeks, the side of the nose and/or on the temples to give your face a shadow and or slimming effect. Complement your contour with a highlight stick or powder that is one to two shades lighter than your skin color on areas that are more prominent such as on the apples of the cheeks, the tip of the nose and the T-zone.

For the perfect contouring outcome, you must first identify your face’s natural shape. Is it oval, long, round, square, heart, or diamond-shaped?

How to Master the Cool, Chic Contour Technique:

  1. Two Contour Foundation Sticks (one to two shades darker than your skin tone, one to two shades lighter than your skin tone).
  2. Apply a base foundation to your skin.
  3. Map Your Face: Use the darker contour stick to trace your temples, cheekbones, and nose area.
  4. Blend: Use a damp beauty blender to blend the contour into the foundation.
  5. Get Lit: Use the lighter contour stick under your eyes, forehead and bridge of the nose. Blend with a damp beauty blender.
  6. Powder Dust: Use a fluffy brush to dust off loose translucent face powder.

Sculpt your face to perfection when you follow the perfect contouring directions!

Contouring the shape of your face and features can be that easy to achieve. For those who want this fabulous makeup technique but feel like you don’t have the skills for it, simply experiment. As with anything new, practice makes perfect. You’ll become the contour wizard in no time.

Much like we all delight in the luxury of a hot, soapy bath or shower, our face luxuriates when it’s treated to a fabulous facial. Facials can be provided in a number of ways, including steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels, and massages. Although many facials are performed in beauty salons, do-it-yourself (DIY) facials can be just as invigorating and successful in removing wrinkles, rejuvenating your skin, and relieving stress.

The benefits of a facial mask treatment include revitalizing, healing, and refreshing the skin, as well as eliminating blemishes.

How to Give Yourself a Full Facial, At-Home Makeover:

1. Take a warm bath or steamy shower to open your pores, as well as soften and hydrate the skin.
2. Clean your face well with a mild facial cleanser.
3. Do a gentle exfoliation of your entire face and apply a mask appropriate for your skin type (oily, dry, or a combination).
4. While the mask sits on your face, you may want to lie down and place slices of cucumbers over your eyes. This natural home treatment reduces puffiness and eliminates circles under your eyes.
5. After twenty minutes, wash the mask off your face with warm water and pat dry with a towel.
6. Voila, glowing skin and a fabulous new you!

DIY fabulous facials! Beauty never felt so good!

Another trick for great, glowing skin when you don’t have time for a full facial is a quick face steam. Boil water and place your makeup free face above the hot water, letting the steam hit your face. This helps to open pores and soften skin. Make sure your face doesn’t come in contact with the hot water! Pat your face dry with a soft towel.

Now, you can go au naturel and show off your gorgeous skin. The crowning glory? A glorious hairstyle to frame your clean, pretty face.

Masks can be removed by either rinsing the face with warm water, wiping the mask with a damp cloth or peeling off the mask. For those of you with sensitive skin, I suggest you first test out the mask on a small portion of skin, in order to check for any irritations.

Eliminate dull, tired, stressed out skin the easy way. DIY facials are here to stay!

So, treat yourself to a fantastic, fabulous facial and adore the healthy, radiant skin that you’re in. It’s a definite beauty win!

You’ve probably heard the term “eyebrow threading” or have seen it listed on professional beauty parlor and spa signs. Even if you’re into the perfect brow, many of us aren’t familiar with eyebrow threading or what the process entails. Eyebrow threading originated in Asia. A piece of thread is taken and twisted on itself as it is glided along the eyebrow to shape it. This causes the unwanted hairs to be removed from the follicle but doesn’t damage the tender skin tissue around the eyebrow.

What is the benefit of eyebrow threading? Sure, there are other ways to remove unwanted hairs such as tweezing, plucking, shaving and waxing, but eyebrow threading is an easy procedure that gives you the thick, perfectly shaped eyebrows of your dreams. Whether you prefer full brows with a high arch or thin brows shaped in a more direct line, eyebrow threading could be your answer.

The eyebrow threading procedure takes approximately 15 minutes per visit. Not bad considering you’ll do away with all your stray hairs. Unlike waxing, threading removes only the hair and no skin, so you won’t be prone to the red irritation that waxing often leaves. You’ll feel a slight sting as the hairs are removed, much like with tweezing, but no burning sensation that comes from waxing.

Eyebrows are beautiful and help sculpt your face, as well as highlight your eyes. Maintaining gorgeously shaped brows is well worth the effort and cost. After a session of eyebrow threading, the hair-free results generally last from two to four weeks. The hair is pulled out at the root, as opposed to waxing or shaving where the root remains, so it takes longer for the hair to grow back. Is the procedure cost-effective? Yes! The price varies from about $25 to $35 per session. Not bad for perfectly shaped eyebrows!

Considering eyebrow threading isn’t too painful, and gives your brows a precise finish, I recommend the procedure. Even the tiniest hairs can be removed out of their follicle, and the professional maintains total control over which hairs are pulled out and which hairs remain. You can thread one hair at a time or a line of hair, giving you well-defined brows. Is eyebrow threading worth it? Absolutely. Once you’ve had the brow experience and take a look in the mirror, you probably won’t return to tweezing or waxing again.

Oh, the popularity and perfection of eyebrow threading!  The perfect brow shape correction process!

Contour, contour, contour!
It’s a word we hear often relating to makeup procedures, but what exactly is contouring? Contouring is a makeup technique that uses cosmetics to define, enhance and sculpt the structure of the face, or other body parts, such as the breasts.
The definition of contouring as a noun: An outline, especially one representing or bounding the shape or form of something.
The definition of contouring as a verb: To mold into a specific shape, typically one designed to fit into something else. Mark (a map or a diagram) with contour lines.

Contouring Fun Fact: Contouring is usually produced by placing a warm or cool toned color that is one or two shades darker than your skin color in areas such as the hollows of the cheeks, on the side of the nose, and on the temples, to give a shadow and slimming effect. Contouring can be complemented with a highlighter that is one or two shades lighter than your skin color on areas of the face that are more prominent, such as on the apples on the cheeks and the tip of the nose or the t-zone.
In the 16th century, contouring started with stage actors. In Elizabethan England, stage actors would apply chalk and soot to their faces to help audience members read their facial expressions.
Express and sculpt your face to perfection when you follow perfect contouring directions!

How to Perform Flawless Contouring Fast and Easy:

  1. Makeup Products Needed:  Either your normal powder or cream base foundation and two foundation sticks (one stick should be one or two shades darker than you skin tone; one stick should be one or two shades lighter than your skin tone).
  2. Apply your base foundation to even out your skin.
  3. Map Your Face: Using the darker foundation stick, trace your temples. Bring out your cheekbones by finding the hollow part, by placing your fingers on the sides of your face, and where you feel the dip underneath the cheekbone, place the foundation pigment just above this area. With the nose, go a bit narrower at the tip, or you can carry the foundation stick into the brow to add length or width.
  4. Blend, Blend, Blend: Take a damp beauty blender and tap over the area of the contour color, merging it into your base foundation. Tap in small, circular motions, using the bigger, rounded end of the beauty blender.
  5. Get Lit: Concentrate the lighter foundation stick underneath your eyes. You can also add lighter foundation in the center of the forehead, the chin and the bridge of the nose. Blend with a damp beauty blender.
  6. Powder Dust: With a fluffy brush, dust the entire face with loose powder. Translucent powder works best for securing a cream foundation

That’s how you sharpen and sculpt parts of your face: a sure fire win for any shaped face!

Contouring Fun Fact: In the 1920s and 1930s, face contouring could be seen in the film world. Marlene Dietrich would contour her face for her movies. She would accentuate the natural lines of her face with shading and sculpting. In the 1950s, a time of Old Hollywood glamour, actresses such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor subtly contoured and shaded their facial features.
How to enhance and sculpt the natural shape of your face!

Contouring Fun Fact: In the 2000s, the practice of “body contouring” – the application of contouring other parts of the body than the face, such as shinbones and breasts – became more widely noticed as a result of the increasing number of images of celebrities appearing in social media.

Contouring Fun Fact: In 1934, makeup artist Max Factor was famous for applying makeup for stage actors. He added shading to the face so that the face wouldn’t appear flat on film. In 1945, he released the first tutorial on how to contour the face, noting various face shapes.
In 1944, Ben Nye, a famous makeup artist, did the makeup for characters in the movies “Gone with the Wind” and “Planet of the Apes”. He then created his own cosmetics line.
Even if you don’t have your own line of makeup, you can highlight and contour your face to professional makeup artist perfection! Sheer sculpting heaven!

Contour the shape of your face to a sculpting level that will take first place!
“Your face is absolutely gorgeous: your prominent nose and your high cheekbones!”
“Yes, put a jeweled crown on your head and you should be sitting on a throne!”
“Are your high cheekbones natural or did you contour your face quite well?”
