Denim fabric never goes out of style…never has…never will. People all around the world adore their denim.
Denim is a sturdy cotton warp-faced textile in which the weft passes under two or more warp threads. This twill weaving produces a diagonal ribbing that distinguishes it from cotton duck. The most common denim is indigo denim, in which the warp thread is dyed, while the weft thread is left white. As a result of the warp-faced twill weaving, one side of the textile is dominated by the blue warp threads and the other side is dominated by the white weft threads. This causes blue jeans to be white on the inside. The indigo dyeing process, in which the core of the warp threads remain white, creates denim’s signature fading characteristics.
Dominate the streets and the runways dressed in dazzling, durable denim!

Denim Fun Fact: The name ‘denim’ derives from French serge de Nimes, meaning “serge from Nimes”.  Denim was traditionally colored blue with indigo dye to make blue jeans. The contemporary use of the word “jeans” comes from the French word for Genoa, Italy (Genes) where the first denim trousers were made.
Durable, delicious denim fabric has been used in the United States since the mid 19th century. Denim initially gained popularity when Jacob W. Davis, a tailor from the state of Nevada, manufactured the first pair of “rivet-reinforced” denim pants. Davis wrote a proposal to wholesaler Levi Strauss & Co. who had been supplying Davis with bolts of denim fabric.  His proposal was to patent the design of the rivet-reinforced denim pants, with Davis listed as the inventor, in exchange for certain rights of manufacture. Levi Strauss & Co. came on board with their possibilities of profit in the manufacture of the garment and then hired Davis to be in charge of the mass-production in San Francisco.
What marvels come about when an inventor takes a leap of faith! Jacob W. Davis dreamed his denim jeans into a fashion and money dynasty! Gotta’ get me some of that magnificent Davis denim!

Denim Fun Fact: Over time denim will usually fade, which is considered desirable by some people. During the process of wear, fading will often occur on those parts of the material that receive the most stress. On a pair of jeans, that includes the upper thighs, ankles and the areas behind the knees.
After being made into an article of clothing, most denim garments are washed to make them softer and to reduce or eliminate shrinkage. Washed denim is sometimes artificially distressed to produce a worn look. Much of the appeal of artificially distressed denim is that it resembles dry denim which has faded. This process creates what many feel to be a look more natural than artificially distressed denim.
Never a fashion drought when dressed in denim!

Dry Denim Fun Fact: Dry denim is denim that isn’t washed after having been dyed during production. To facilitate the natural distressing process, some wearers of dry denim will abstain from washing their jeans for more than six months. Most dry denim is made with 100% cotton and comes from several different countries. The United States, Zimbabwe and Japan produce popular sources of cotton for making raw denim.
Dry denim also varies in weight, typically measured by the weight of a yard of denim in ounces. 12 ounces or less is considered light denim, 12 to 16 ounces is considered mid-weight, and over 16 ounces is considered heavy weight denim.
Whether you prefer to don your diva self in light, mid or heavy weight denim, one thing is certain. When dressed in dazzling denim you’ll look better than the all rest of them!

There’s no denying that people love their faded jeans! Fade patterns have helped personalize denim clothing articles!
Preferred Denim Fading Patterns in Jeans:

  1. Combs or Honeycombs – These are faded lines that are found behind the knees.
  2. Whiskers – Faded streaks that surround the crotch area of the jeans.
  3. Stacks – These are created by having the inseam of the jeans hemmed a few inches longer than the actual leg length. The extra fabric then stacks on top of the shoe, causing a faded area to form around the ankle, extending up the to calf area.
  4. Train Tracks – This appears on the outseams of the denim. This pattern showcases the selvage by forming two parallel lines of fades which resemble train tracks.

And just what is selvage, you ask?  Selvage is the edge of a fabric as it comes from the loom. Selvedges are woven or knitted so they won’t fray, ravel or curl.
Who is that sexy denim girl?

Denim Fun Fact: Denim fabric is divided into two categories: indigo dyeing and sulfur dying. Indigo dyeing produces the traditional blue color or similar shades. Sulfur dyeing produces specialty black colors and other colors, such as red, pink, purple, gray, rust, mustard and green. Stretch denim incorporates an elastic component, such as spandex. This creates a certain amount of ‘give’ in garments made from stretch denim. It only takes about 3% of spandex within the denim fabric to create a stretch capacity of about 15%.
Stretch your beautiful body into a slinky, glamorous, stylish pair of stretch jeans. Move with the style of a true fashion icon and stay comfortable at the same time. Your denim duds truly move with you, every step you take, all of the time.
Make no fashion mistake. Denim is the garment road to take!

Pedicures are a treat to pretty up and pamper your feet. A pedicure is a cosmetic treatment of the feet and toenails, similar to a manicure for the hands and fingernails. Pedicures are done for cosmetic, therapeutic and medical purposes and can help prevent nail diseases and nail disorders. They are popular throughout the world, especially among women.
Pedicures include care not only for toenails, but also for the feet, and skin care is often provided up to the knee, including granular exfoliation, moisturizing and massage.
Pedicure and polish your toenails to pleasing perfection!

Pedicure Fun Fact: The word ‘pedicure’ is derived from the Latin words “pedis”, which means “of the foot”, and “cura”, which means “care.” People have been pedicuring their nails for more than 4,000 years. In Southern Babylonia, noblemen used solid gold tools to give themselves manicures and pedicures. The use of fingernail polish can be traced back even further.
Originating in China in 3000 BC, nail color indicated one’s social status, according to a Ming Dynasty manuscript; royal fingernails were painted red and black. Ancient Egyptians have been manicuring all the way back to 2300 BC.
Let’s get matching pedicures…paint your toenails fancy with me!

Diamonds aren’t only a girl’s best friend…guys love the stunning, sparkling gems too!
Diamond jewelry has long been loved, admired and coveted by people. A diamond is a metastable allotrope of carbon, where the carbon atoms are arranged in a variation of the face-centered cubic crystal structure called a diamond lattice. A diamond is less stable than graphite, but the conversion rate from diamond to graphite is negligible at standard conditions.
A diamond is renowned as a material with superlative physical qualities, most of which originate from the strong covalent bonding between its atoms. In particular, a diamond has the highest hardness and thermal conductivity of any bulk material.

Diamond Fun Fact: Most natural diamonds are formed at high temperature and pressure at depths of 140 to 190 kilometers (87 to 118 mi) in the Earth’s mantle. Carbon-containing minerals provide the carbon source, and the growth occurs over periods from 1 billion to 3.3 billion years (25% to 75% of the age of the Earth). Diamonds are brought close to the Earth’s surface through deep volcanic eruptions by magma, which cools into igneous rocks knowns as kimberlites and lamproites.
Diamonds can also be produced synthetically in a HPHT method which approximately stimulates the conditions in the Earth’s mantle. An alternative, and completely different growth technique, is chemical vapor deposition.
Whether your diamonds are natural or synthetic, drape yourself in diamonds for a royal, regal, lavish fit!

Diamond Fun Fact: The name diamond is derived from the ancient Greek adamas, meaning proper, unalterable, unbreakable, untamed. Diamonds are thought to have first been recognized and mined in India, where significant alluvial deposits of the stone could be found many centuries ago along the rivers Penner, Krishna and Godavari. Diamonds have been known in India for at least 6,000 years.
Diamond jewelry has long been loved and lavished by people for centuries, and revered in countries all around the world.

Marketing has significantly affected the image of the diamond as a valuable commodity. N. W. Ayer & Son, the advertising firm detained by De Beers in the mid-20th century, succeeded in reviving the American diamond market. The firm created new markets in countries where no diamond tradition had existed before. N. W. Ayer’s marketing included product placement, advertising focused on the diamond product itself rather than from the De Beers brand, and associations with celebrities and royalty.
Today, diamonds signify wealth, affluence, romance, love and commitment. Marriage anyone? Say it with diamonds for excitement and fun when you’ve found your special one!

Mined rough diamonds are converted into gems through a multi-step process called “cutting.” Diamonds are extremely hard, but also brittle and can be split by a single blow. Therefore, diamond cutting is considered a delicate procedure requiring skills, scientific knowledge, tools and experience.
Issues Considered When Cutting Diamonds:

  1. The hardness of the diamond and the gem’s ability to cleave strongly depend on the crystal orientation. The crystallographic structure of the diamond to be cut is analyzed using X-ray diffraction to choose optimal cutting directions.
  2. Most diamonds contain visible non-diamond inclusions and crystal flaws. The cutter has to decide which flaws are to be removed by the cutting and which could be kept.
  3. The diamond can be split by a single, well calculated blow of a hammer to a pointed tool, which is quick, but risky. It can also be cut with d diamond saw, which is a more reliable but tedious procedure.

After the initial cutting, the diamond is shaped in numerous stages of polishing, which can be performed by technicians.

Diamond Fun Fact: The conditions for diamond formation to happen in the lithospheric mantle occur at considerable depth corresponding to the requirements of temperature and pressure. Those depths are estimated between 140 and 190 kilometers (87 and 118 mi), though occasionally diamonds have crystallized at depths about 300 kilometers (190 mi).

Hats are hip. The decorative head coverings can fit flat on the head or be wide brimmed, tight or floppy, simple or flamboyant, work related or worn for fashion, but hats always add a special touch of “something” to an outfit and to your overall appearance.
A hat is a head covering which is worn for various reasons, including protection against the elements like rain or wind, ceremonial reasons such as university graduations and religious reasons, safety such as when working on a construction site, and for all fashion divas, as a flattering fashion accessory!

Hat Fun Fact: In the past, hats were an indicator of social status. In the military, hats may denote nationality, branch of service, rank, and/or regiment. Police typically wear distinctive hats such as peaked caps or brimmed hats, such as those worn by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
While there aren’t many official records of hats before 3,000 BC, they probably were commonplace before that. Archaeologists think that the Venus of Brassempouy 26,000 years ago may depict a hat. One of the earliest confirmed hats was worn by a bronze age man, whose body (including his hat) was found frozen in a mountain between Austria and Italy, where he’d been since around 3,300 BC. He was found wearing a bearskin cap with a chin strap, made of several hides stitched together, resembling a Russian fur hat without the flaps.

new-vintage-women-shirts-print-h-is-most-glamorous-paris-looks-blouse-shirtHat sizes are determined by measuring the circumference of a person’s head about 1 centimeter (one-half inch) above the ears. Inches or centimeters may be used depending on the manufacturer. Felt hats can be stretched for a custom fit. Some hats, like hard hats and baseball caps, are adjustable. Some hats come in standard sizes, such as small, medium and large.
Traditional hat size is worked out by adding the fore and aft and side to side measurements (in inches) and then dividing by two. In the United Kingdom, an equivalent hat size is an eighth of an inch smaller than in the United States.

Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is an annual holiday celebrated on February 14. It originated as a Western Christian liturgical feast day honoring one or more early saints named Valentinus, and is recognized as a significant cultural and commercial celebration in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country.
Valentine’s Day Fun Fact: Valentine’s Day first became associated with romantic love within the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionaries, and sending greeting cards. Romance at its best!

Valentine’s Day Fun Fact: While the European folk traditions connected with Saint Valentine and Saint Valentine’s Day have become marginalized by modern Anglo-American customs connecting the day with romantic love, there are some remaining associations connecting the saint with the advent of Spring. While the customs of sending cards, flowers, chocolates and other gifts originated in the United Kingdom, Valentine’s Day still remains connected with various regional customs in England.
No matter how you choose to spend the day, bask in your own love and your own sense of personal style and dress the fabulous, festive day in your own selected way!

Plaids, tartan, checkered? All are similar fashion material patterns, but each print a bit different with its own unique look, blend and posh pizzazz.
In the realm of plaid, the popular design never goes out of style. Plaid is a pattern consisting of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colors. Plaid originated in woven wool, but now plaids are made in many different materials.
Plaid is made with alternating bands of colored (pre-dyed) threads woven as both warp and weft at right angles to each other. The weft is woven in a simple twill, two over – two under the warp, advancing one thread at each pass. This forms visible diagonal lines where different colors cross, which gives the appearance of new colors blended from the original ones. The resulting blocks of color repeat vertically and horizontally in a distinctive pattern of squares and lines known as “sett.”
On your mark, get ‘sett’…plaid clothing stands out, you bet!

Plaid Fun Fact: The pattern of plaid is called sett. The sett is made up of a series of woven threads which cross at right angles. The word ‘plaid’ is derived from the Scottish Gaelic ‘plaide’, meaning blanket. The word plaid was first used to describe any rectangular garment, sometimes made up of tartan, which preceded the modern Scottish kilt. In time, plaid was used to describe blankets themselves. In Scotland, a plaid is a tartan cloth slung over the shoulder as a kilt accessory, or a plain ordinary blanket such as one would have on a bed.
To create the popular plaid pattern, each thread on the warp crosses each thread on the weft at right angles. Where a thread in the warp crosses a thread of the same color in the weft, they produce a solid color on the plaid, while a thread crossing another of a different color produces an equal mixture of the two colors. Thus, a set of two base colors produces three different colors, including one mixture. The sequence of threads, known as the sett, starts at an edge and either repeats or reverses on what are called pivot points.
Point me toward the pizzazz filled pattern called plaid!

Plaid Fun Fact: The shades of color in plaid can be altered to produce variations of the same plaid. The resulting variations are termed:

  1. Modern Plaid: A plaid that is colored using chemical dye, as opposed to natural dye.
  2. Ancient Plaid: Refers to a lighter shade of plaid. These shades are meant to represent the colors that would result from fabric aging over time.
  3. Muted Plaid: Plaid which is a shade between modern and ancient. This type of plaid developed in the early 1970s, and the shade is said to be the closest match to the shades attained by natural dyes used before the mid-19th century.

Plaid Fun Fact: The idea that various colors used in plaid have a specific meaning or symbolism is a modern myth:

  1. Red Plaids: Battle Plaids
  2. Green Plaids: Prairies and Forests
  3. Blue Plaids: Lakes and Rivers
  4. Yellow Plaids: Various Crops

No matter the colors, no matter the clothes, when dressed in pretty plaids you’ll stand out at fashion shows!
Plaid pandemonium: a tartan passion for fashion!

Plaid In Fashion: In the Victorian and Edwardian eras, plaid garments featured in fashion catalogues. By then, plaid had shifted from mainly being a component of men’s clothing to becoming an important fabric in women’s fashion. Due to plaid’s association with the British aristocracy and the military, plaid patterns developed an air of dignity and exclusivity. Because of this, plaid has made reappearances in the world of fashion several times.
In the 1970s, plaid patterns made a resurgence in the use of punk fashion. The unorthodox use of plaid, which had long been associated with authority and gentility, was then seen as the expression of discontent against modern society. In this way, plaid, worn unconventionally, became an anti-establishment symbol.
Whether you beat to your own unique style drum, or dress to fit into a crowd, when donned in pleasing plaid you’ll look dazzling, dapper and fashion proud!

Depending upon how different plaids are defined, it has been estimated that there are about 3,500 to 7,000 different plaid patterns, with around 150 new designs created every year. With four distinct ways of presenting colors in plaid patterns, there are approximately 14,000 recognized variations of plaid to choose from.
Run, don’t walk, to your nearest store and stock your closet with plaid garments galore. Plaid to adore!

Plaid Fun Fact: Since the Victorian era, authorities on plaid have stated that there is an etiquette to wearing plaid, specifically plaid attributed to clans or families. This concept of entitlement to certain plaids has led to the term of ‘universal plaid’, or ‘free plaid’, which describes plaid which can be worn by anyone. Traditional examples of such are Black Watch, Caledonian, Hunting Stewart and Jacobite plaids. In the same line of opinion, some plaid patterns attributed to the British Royal Family are claimed to be off limits to non-royalty.
Strut like royalty and feel like a million dollars when dressed in plaid skirts, dresses, pants, blouses, shorts, jackets and collars!

Plaid Fun Fact: The most popular color combination in plaid patterns? Red and black…imagine that!
“I love the colorful pattern and criss-cross lines going across your coat.”
“You adore my wool plaid jacket do you? I wear it well, but I’m not one to gloat.”
“Will plaid work for all types of garments? If so, perhaps I’ll get me some plaid too.”
“You can find darling plaid purses, pants, dresses, skirts and plaid high heels for you.”
“The plaid pattern is bold, bright, playful, youthful, chic and fun.”
“That it is my fashion queen. If I dress head to toe plaid, the fashion prize I have won!”
Take in the chic, elegant, noble, splendid look of plaid! Wow, you wear it well…not half bad!

With the fall and winter months upon us, we are getting into the time of year when we need to step outside and battle the harsh weather elements by wrapping ourselves in a wrap. Often times a coat is too cumbersome and heavy, while a sweater is too light. What is a stylish, comfortable wrap that is just right? The blazer.
A blazer is a type of jacket resembling a suit jacket, but cut more casually. A blazer is generally distinguished from a sport coat as a more formal garment and tailored from solid colored fabrics. Blazers often have naval-style metal buttons to reflect their origins as jackets worn by boating club members.
However, blazers come in a variety of colors and patterns, and are a fashionable garment for both men and women.

Blazer Fun Fact: A blazer’s cloth is usually durable, as the blazer is intended as outdoor wear. Blazers are often part of a uniform that denotes, for example, an airline’s employees, students of a particular school, members of sports clubs and athletes on a particular team.
Blazers provide warmth to the body while adding coolness to an outfit!
Blazers are generally long sleeved, with a tapered cut narrowing at the waist, and hang to the hips. Some blazers are longer, while some resemble waist jackets. Blazers come in a variety of fabrics, such as cotton, wool, silk, velvet and suede. Blazers can be worn with the front opened, buttoned, zipped or held together with Velcro.

Step out in a blaze of glory dressed in a beautiful blazer!
Blazer Fun Fact: Striped blazers became popular among British Mods in the early 1960s, and again during the Mod revival of the late 1970s – particularly in three-color thick/thin stripe combinations, with three-button single breasted fronts, five or six inch side or center vents and sleeve-cuffs with multi-buttons. Various photos from 1964 and 1965 show London mods in boating blazers.
Various bands like The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Animals, The Yardbirds, The Moody Blues and The Troggs had band members wearing striped blazers/boating jackets or brightly colored blazers with wide white or other light edging.
Due to the stylish cut of the blazer, blazers look great when worn with skirts or pants. A blazer looks just a bit more fashionable than a knitted sweater.

As blazers originated as men’s clothing, by the late 2000s, the blazer had been adopted as a popular fashion trend amongst females, often having shorter lengths, rolled up sleeves, various lapels and bright colors.
Women bring style and flair to any practical item. We can’t help it…it’s in our blood. Alluring aesthetics.  Fashion divas one and all!
Blazers can be worn with a wide variety of other clothes, ranging from a dress shirt to a ruffled blouse to a T-shirt, as well as dress slacks, dresses, skirts, pants, gauchos and shorts.

Blazer Fun Fact: The sartorial term blazer originated with the red “blazers” of the Lady Margaret Boat Club in 1825, the rowing club of St. John’s College, Cambridge. The Lady Margaret club jackets were termed blazers because of the bright red cloth, the term survived the original red coat.
Blazers are a popular jacket in that they are fitted, classically cut, comfortable to wear and move in, and they can be mixed and matched with numerous garments.
Have you ever heard of the reefer jacket? The reefer jacket was of naval origin, and described the short durable breasted jacket worn by sailors in harsh weather, when they perform duties such as reefing the sails.
Blast off fueled in a fashionable blazer!

Blazer Fun Fact: The earlier style of striped blazers can be seen in the film Quadrophenia. The later bright style of blazer was affectionately adopted by Austin Powers as part of the Swinging London look.
“It’s a bit chilly outside. I  need to grab a wrap.”
“That bulky sweater you just picked up will make you look like a sap.”
“Yes, it is baggy with no real oomph or style.”
“It will keep you warm but won’t make you smile!”
“I’ll go with my black velvet blazer. It’s cozy and cool.”
“Darling, wrapped in that beautiful blazer you’ll be no fashion fool.”
Don’t fool yourself: step out in a beguiling blazer looking trendy and mod. Be a true fashion trailblazer!

If you’re looking to buy a new fashion garment for your wardrobe, or if you need an excuse to yet again lavish yourself in trendy clothes, every closet should be home to at least one jumpsuit!
A jumpsuit is a one-piece garment that generally consists of a combined top and pants (where the pants go down to the feet/ankles). Somewhat similar to coveralls or overalls, jumpsuits can be loose or tight fitting and can be found in a number of style preferences.
Jumpsuits are a staple of popular clothing in women’s fashion!
Chevron-jumpsuitfree-people-womens-june-2013-catalog-spring-fashion-clothing-collection-dresses-fringes-prints-rompers-tiedye-shirt-pants-12xHTB1izcYFVXXXXXFXFXXq6xXFXXXzc8b6ea77e7bbceff62ce944fb0bc111d_best
Starting in the 1960s, the jumpsuit has made occasional appearances in both common and high fashion. The jumpsuit was at the height of its popularity in the 1980s, and the stylish one-piece garment has been used as stage costumes in theater productions and by various singers and bands. Think Britney Spears, Pink, the Spice Girls and Suzi Quatro, who have all performed on stage in one-piece signature jumpsuits. And let’s not forget male performers such as Elvis Presley, Mick Jagger, Roger Daltry and Freddie Mercury, who have all stood on stage and entertained audiences dressed in flamboyant one-piece jumpsuits. Ah yes, they have entertained me!
Bring out your fashion flair in a jet-set one-piece jumpsuit!
Jumpsuit Fashion Tip: Make sure that whatever shoes you decide to wear with your jumpsuit match and compliment the style. Shoes can make or break an outfit!

Jumpsuit Fun Fact: One-piece jumpsuits have a tendency to make the wearer look longer and leaner. Since the garment has an unbroken line running from the neck to the feet, this tends to flatter body shapes, providing an elongated appearance.
Jumpsuits tend to make their mark in high fashion as the one-piece wonder is often attractive to fashion designers. Whatever your fashion sense, jumpsuits run the realm of casual to club chic, and the enticing garment can be dressed up or down depending on your choice of shoes and accessories.
I love black clothes, and I find black jumpsuits to be both modern and elegant, being worn as standard day or office clothing, or fancy evening wear.
Slinky and sassy, black jumpsuits always look classy!

Jumpsuit Fun Fact: Jumpsuits can also be referred to as rompers or onesies. Rompers appeared in the United States in the early 1900s and are particularly popular because they are generally ideal for movement and not as restrictive as separate shirts and shorts or pants. In France, for many years, rompers were only worn by boys.
Since 2006, rompers have enjoyed a comeback as a fashionable garment for women.  In the Spring 2009 fashion collections, Marc Jacobs, Max Azria and Mara Hoffman were among name designers who showcased various versions of the romper.
