Sure, life can be much easier and more fun when you have lots of money, but money doesn’t mean everything. On those weekends when cash is tight and your time is open, it can force you to get creative and explore activities that you may not pay much attention to when your wallet is large. This is actually a good thing. You’d be amazed at how many activities you can do and what you can explore when your budget is forcing you to nickel and dime it!

Favorite Affordable Weekend Activities:

• Bowling: Everyone should bowl at least once in their lifetime. Most larger cities have a bowling alley in the area that can guarantee you a fun, competitive event at a reasonable cost. Toss in nachos and a coke from the snack bar and have a grand time on a dime!

• Take a Hike: Most of us spend so much time in our cars, on public transportation, etc. that getting out in the open air and enjoying a hike is a welcome pleasure. Whether you take a short stroll through hills or a long hike up mountains, the exercise and fresh air will feel good!

• Plan a Picnic: If the weather cooperates, a picnic in the park passes time and costs you only the price of the food you pack. Some cities offer free outdoor concerts in the park. Why not lay out a blanket, feast from your picnic basket and enjoy some great music at minimal expense?

• Visit a Coffee House: Coffee houses have become the new “fast food restaurants” to drink and socialize in. You can pass an entire afternoon hitting a coffee house with friends, indulging in your favorite flavored coffees and chatting for hours. You can catch up on all the latest gossip and connect with friends on a deeper level at the same time.

• Host a Movie Night: Invite family and friends over for a movie night at your house. Everyone can pitch in for pizzas or you can do a potluck style gathering, where the cost of food is divided among the guests. Laughter, food, and fun on a budget!

• Hang Out in a Sports Bar: Sports bars offer delicious food, drinks, access to viewing sporting events, pool tables and dart boards. For the same amount of money you would spend at a restaurant for dinner, you can choose to eat at a sports bar with unlimited free entertainment while you watch your favorite teams battle it out. Not a sports fan? A little competition does the body and mind well!

• Go for Ice Cream Treats: Find your closest Baskin Robbins or frozen yogurt shop and indulge in your favorite ice cream treats! Satisfy your sweet tooth with amazing ice cream desserts and your taste buds and mood will ramp up, while your pocketbook doesn’t take a nosedive. Ice cream brings everyone to their happy place!

With so many things to do that don’t require lots of money, one should never be bored. Unless, of course, the stillness and restful state of being bored brings you to your happy place. There is a serenity about slowing down, doing nothing, and regrouping! After all, this is how you keep your energy up to do fun activities on  a budget!

ChapStick is by far the most noted and used brand of all lip balms. The brand name ChapStick is so popular that people use it in relation to all lip balm products, much like calling tissue Kleenex. ChapStick is manufactured by Pfizer Consumer Healthcare and sold in many countries around the world. But what does ChapStick actually do? It helps treat and prevent chapped lips, and more.

ChapStick also functions as a sunscreen available with SPFs as high as 50, and a skin lubricant to help prevent and protect chafed, chapped, sunburned, cracked, and windburned lips. “Medicated” varieties are also available which contain analgesics to relieve sore lips.

Five Fun Facts Regarding ChapStick:

  1. It Doesn’t Moisturize – ChapStick doesn’t work by adding moisture to your lips, it works by protecting your lips from losing their own moisture. The wax creates a watertight barrier that prevents your internal skin moisture from escaping, softening your lips and keeping them feeling moist.
  2. The Little Bit You Ingest is Okay – Although the ingredients in ChapStick aren’t meant to be eaten, the amount you consume from licking your lips isn’t going to harm you, much like wearing your favorite lipstick.
  3. ChapStick Does Expire – Like most health and beauty products, a tube of ChapStick does have an expiration date. You’ll likely use the product before it expires, as one container of ChapStick is meant to last two to three years.
  4. Lips Aren’t The Only Place to Use ChapStick – Much like petroleum jelly, ChapStick can be applied to other parts of your body than just the lips to soften skin and help hold in moisture. You can use ChapStick around your nose in cold weather to prevent chapping, apply it to your nail cuticles and tame unruly eyebrows.
  5. Special Flavors – ChapStick is available in special flavors developed in connection with marketing partners such as Disney or charitable causes like breast cancer awareness. Some of these flavors include Cherry, Grape Craze, and Blue Crazeberry.

For soft, natural, gorgeous lips that are sure to shine, apply ChapStick in the morning and evenings, or as a protective base coat before swiping on your lipstick.

For the many of you who use ChapStick regularly, here are a list of Ingredients in regular flavored ChapStick: arachidyl propionate, camphor, carnauba wax, cetyl alcohol, D&C red no. 6 barium lake, FD&C yellow no. 5 aluminum lake, fragrance, isopropyl lanolate, isopropyl myristate, lanolin, light mineral oil, methylparaben, octyldodecanol, oleyl alcohol, paraffin, phenyl trimethicone, propylparaben, titanium dioxide, white wax, proponal. Its net weight is 4 grams or 0.14 ounces.

Although most people have no ill effects from using ChapStick, some of you may be allergic to certain ingredients. Always read the ingredients list of all lip products to ensure your health and safety before using the item for the first time.

Everything you need to know at Chapstick 101! Protect your lips and keep them kissable and soft for joyful fun in the sun!

Pucker up baby! ChapStick for soft, supple, ooh la la lips!

We all yearn for glowing, gorgeous, perfect skin, but no matter how much we love the skin that we’re in, we are all prone to occasional breakouts. Even though none of us want bad skin, there are ways to conceal and camouflage dark spots and blemishes to create a look of radiant, healthy skin. It’s all in the makeup application and technique!

Our complexion is important to us and obtaining what resembles perfect skin with makeup requires a working knowledge of color theory, your skin type (dry, oily, normal, combination), and cosmetic formulations. A cover stick will hide a blemish in a different way than a cream foundation, and applying powder over a concealer helps to maintain a look of blemish free skin.

When hiding and covering blemishes, you should use products such as concealers, foundations, cover sticks, and powders. Although makeup can diminish the appearance of blemishes, it doesn’t flatten raised bumps or smooth out flaky skin. If you need to conceal these types of breakouts, apply Vaseline or petroleum jelly to the blemished areas at night before going to sleep, and you’ll see a difference in the redness and size of the bump when you wake up in the morning.

For covering blemishes correctly, the color of the concealer is key. Make sure to use a concealer, foundation, or cover stick in a shade that is identical to or matches your natural skin tone. For pale, alabaster skin an ivory tone works wonders. For darker skin types use beige, yellow, or a deep tan. Don’t go with white based concealers, as these shades don’t blend well into your natural skin tone and can leave a gray appearance.

When covering dark circles under your eyes, dab a cream concealer and foundation over the dark circles to even out your skin tone and give you a more “awake” look. If you are trying to hide redness or red, inflamed blemishes, too much white won’t achieve your desired results. Yellow toned cosmetics are best for covering red spots and blemishes.

The best tools to use for applying cover-up are brushes, makeup sponges, Q-tips, and your fingertips (provided you have just washed your hands.). If you are using a makeup brush, make sure to use a small brush with a pointed tip. The smaller the brush, the more control you will have over covering the blemish, making it look invisible. A large brush will apply too much cover-up at one time, or extend the makeup over healthy skin. You want to work only on the breakout. Once this is finished, blend the cover-up into your own skin by adding a light translucent face powder. Voila, skin that looks clear, blemish free, and oh so pretty!

If you have a large blemish, a press translucent face powder (in the color of your skin tone) on top of the flaw using a makeup sponge or cotton ball will hide the spot. Apply enough powder to cover the blemish and then blend the powder into your clear skin to even it out. When people look at you, the redness of the breakout will be covered, matching your skin tone, and the flaw won’t be noticeable.

Every day we want to put our best foot, and face, forward. Healthy, glowing skin gives you a boost of confidence and a feeling of power. Health and beauty matter, and even though we all deal with pesky blemishes from time to time, an occasional breakout doesn’t have to steal your joy or your sunny mood! Hold your head high with a flawless skin attitude!

How to create blemish free, flawless skin and simply adore that smooth, glowing, radiant skin that you’re in!

Who said, “All that glitters isn’t gold?” In the realm of cosmetics, gold eye shadows and gold lipsticks look as glamorous and gorgeous to a beauty diva as the Gold Medal looks to an Olympian! When your eye shadow shimmers, shines and sparkles with glitter galore, you’ll look even more stunning than ever before!

Applying glitter eye shadow to your gorgeous peepers is a simple and amazing way to create an alluring, sophisticated look that steals the show when you walk into any room. The addition of glitter to the eyes makes the eyes pop. If you add heavy eyeliner and mascara, your eyes will stand out even more in shining, dazzling abundance.

No matter if your eye color is brown, gold, hazel, green, violet, or blue, glitter eye shadow will look fashionably well on you!

Did you know that by merely applying eye shadow on your eyelids and under your eyebrows, you can make your eyes stand out, add depth and dimension to your eyes and look more attractive? Wearing shades of eye shadows that complement your eye color creates an aura of elegance and beauty. Since the best rules of fashion are no rules at all, mix and match colors of your choice and experiment with them all!

How to Apply Glitter Eye Shadow:

1. Prepare your eyes by applying eye primer across your upper and lower eyelids (this limits the chance of creases in your eyeshadow).
2. Blend the primer in with your fingertips or a Q-tip.
3. Select either a powder, cream, cake, or liquid glitter eye shadow.
4. Apply the eye shadow to your upper or lower eyelids, or maybe on both, with your fingertips, makeup brushes, or pencils.
5. Experiment with a variety of colors to match the color of your eyes or your clothes. Neon colors will make your eyes pop. Pastel colors will provide a soft, dainty, elegant look.
6. To remove glitter eye shadow, I would recommend using a commercial eye makeup remover. For some eye shadows, warm water alone will remove the eye makeup. Of course, petroleum jelly works wonders to remove eye makeup.

For a glorious set of eyes, highlight your glitter eye shadow with heavy black eyeliner and black mascara. This provides a theatrical, dramatic look that will steal any spotlight! Better yet, bat your peepers with long, lustrous, gorgeous fake eyelashes!

Eye, eye, eye, where did you get those fabulous eyes?

The eyes truly have it – glitter eye glam! For the beauty diva in all of us!

Get your glitter eye shadow groove on! You can’t go wrong!

As the year 2018 comes to a close, the end of the year and the beginning of the next year find the world celebrating New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.  We welcome in the new year in a partying, celebrating, joyful way. In the Gregorian calendar, New Year’s Eve is the last day of the year, December 31. In many countries, New Year’s Eve is celebrated at evening social gatherings, with dancing, eating, watching fireworks, drinking alcoholic beverages, etc. The celebrations generally go past midnight, into New Year’s Day, January 1.

Many people enjoy dressing up for New Year’s Eve, with fancy clothes, black dresses and black tie garments, jewelry and dramatic makeup. For a full dress of glitz and glam, a large part of the look is going heavy with your face makeup, most notably the eyes.

Dramatic eyes bring out your true glamour.  Eye power!

Tools Needed for Dramatic Eye Makeup Include:

  1. An eye pencil a shade darker than normal (preferably black)
  2. Eye makeup primer
  3. Jet black mascara or fake eyelashes
  4. Coal black liquid eye liner
  5. Various shades of eye shadow (powder or cream)
  6. Eyebrow pencil
  7. Eye makeup brushes
  8. Glitter and jewels if preferred

Dramatic eye makeup looks beautiful, brings out the warmth and color of your eyes and adds depth and dimension to the size of your eyes. Eye makeup is commonly worn to make your eyes stand out and look more attractive. When applying eye shadow, the smokey eye is a great way to add allure and pizzazz to your eyes! Sexy, sophisticated and stunning!

Dramatic eye makeup for your New Year’s Eve drama!

Dramatic  Eye Makeup Tips:

  1. Eye shadows that match your eye color and your clothing look regal and chic.
  2. The more dark and dramatic your eyes are decorated, the lighter your lipstick should be. Don’t over power your eye makeup with neon, popping lipsticks. Smokey eyes done with various shades of blue eye shadows look gorgeous with a nude or light pink lip.
  3. Cats eyes are always a dramatic eye win. The secret is in the eyeliner extension beyond the corner of your eyes.
  4. Experiment and wear the dramatic eyes you were meant to have.  I’ve even seen eye makeup applications where the eye shadow colors on the right eye are different than the eye shadow colors on the left eye, or vice versa. Your face, your beauty, your preference!

For dramatic eyes, the most crucial two elements are the mascara and the eyeliner.  Apply jet black mascara (many coats), and/or jet black false eyelashes and jet black eyeliner (both on your upper and lower eyelids) to obtain the most dramatic eyes of all.

With your eyebrows, obtain the perfect arch. Eyebrows act as a frame for your entire face. Lovely, elegant and full of grace. Wow, you have fantastic makeup taste!

The secret to looking hot, alluring, sensual and sizzling is in the eyes. What better time for over-the-top makeup than on New Year’s Eve? Ring in the new year like the glamour girl that you are…your beauty and mesmerizing looks will go far!

Be the true diva star! Dazzling eyes that are sure to dazzle!

Oh, the joys of winter weather. Rain, snow, sludge, cold, ice, hail and wind. And occasionally, days of glorious sunshine to remind us that yes, spring will eventually get here. As a girl who loves abundant sunny days, even Southern California winter weather can be cold and difficult to deal with. So how do I add spice to my chilly days when Mr.  Sunshine is taking a break? By enjoying the winter fashion, since makeup and clothing for me is a fun passion!

We often bring out our coats and sweaters at this time of year, in various styles and colors. Why not step out in style wearing a trendy trench coat, a coat that can not  only keep you warm and also act as a raincoat, but shouts chic and cool? Trench coats are made of waterproof heavy-duty cotton gabardine drill, leather or poplin. Trench coats generally have a removable insulated lining, raglan sleeves and the classic versions come in various lengths, ranging from just above the ankles to the knees.

Traditionally trench coats are double-breasted with 10 front buttons, have wide lapels, storm flaps and pockets that button closed. The coat is belted at the waist, as well as having straps around the wrists that buckle (to keep water from running down the forearm in the rain). True trench coats also have shoulder straps that button closed, which were a functional feature in military uniforms. The traditional color of the trench coat is khaki, although newer versions can now be found in all colors.

Trench Coat Fun Fact: The trench coat was developed as an alternative to the heavy serge greatcoats worn by British and French soldiers during World War I. Invention of the trench coat belongs to two British luxury clothing manufacturers, Burberry and Aquascutum. Aquascutum claims starting the trendy trench coat in the 1850s. Thomas Burberry invented gabardine fabric in 1879 and submitted a design to the United Kingdom War Office in 1901 to have the sturdy, practical coat act as the Army officers’ raincoat.

Wade through the trenches of inclement weather in a trendy trench coat!

Trench coats have remained fashionable since their inception, long after the end of World War I, and are still popular jackets and/or raincoats today. Trench coats look business like, yet savvy. They keep you warm and dry with a look of sheer cool. For those of you that adore trench coats but find them to look too military, if you tie the belt in front of the jacket, as opposed to using the buckle, you will create a more casual look than strict military. Since trench coats tend to be long,  often going past the knee, it works to wear lighter fabric trench coats as dresses. Button up, slip on some leather or patent leather high heels and turn your coat into a one piece dress! Always look your best!

Just remember you can’t take your coat off if you get too warm. Unless you want to start a new fashion trend of your own! I guarantee you’ll stop traffic in a heartbeat!

The trench coat was originally sized to wear over clothing, to offer water protection when the temperature was cold enough to require a heavier coat than a windbreaker or rubber raincoat. This is why trench coats often fit as a larger size then a normal jacket. In recent years many manufacturers have resized the fit and cut of trench coats to conform more closely to the body.

As always, to fit into fashion, there are versions of the terrific trench coat that have been  modified where the hem stops at mid-thigh level, much like the miniskirt. The classic trench coat looks stunning and stylish no matter the length, showing off a woman’s femininity, power and strength!
Floor length, mid calf, to the knee or above, bundle up in the eye catching, always gorgeous trench coat as the jacket that’s a cut above.

I think I’ll buy myself a truly adorable trench coat this winter season. After all, the coat is so durable and fantastic that I really don’t need a reason!

If boots are made for walking, they’re certainly made for styling with each and every step. Boots are both practical and fashionable footwear that generally covers the foot and ankle, and some the lower calves, knees and thighs. Boots clear up your thighs? Oh my!

Most boots have a heel that is clearly distinguishable from the rest of the sole, even if the two are made from one piece. Many boots are made from leather, patent leather or rubber, but can be made from a variety of materials. Although boots such as work boots and construction boots are designed for practical reasons, most boots worn today are for fashion and style. Hence, may I introduce you to rocking knee high, thigh high and slouch boots? Righteous!

Slouch boots look anything but slouchy!

Slouch boots get their name because the leg of the boot fits loose and rippled, as opposed to tight or straight up and down.

Early boots consisted of separate leggings, soles and uppers worn together to provide greater ankle protection than shoes or sandals. Around 1000 BC, these components were more permanently joined to form a single unit that covered the foot and lower leg, often up to the knee. Step in fashion and aesthetic design and boots that went over the knee and up the thigh became high on the priority list. Knee high, thigh high and slouch boots, when worn with dresses and skirts, take your outfit to off the chart levels that are sky high!

You fashion diva vixen you, don’t be shy!  Give these sexy boots a try!

Boots Fun Fact: The early Dutch Masters were the first to define the boot in European iconography, in spite of the fact that the Chinese had been using footwear that the Frenchman or Portuguese sailor of the day would have recognized as a boot for centuries at that time. Historians agree that the first codified definition of the boot was entered into law by Royal decree during the Hundred Years’ War, noted by the Duke of Wales. European boots were influenced by military styles, featuring thick soles and turnover tops that were originally designed to protect horse mounted soldiers.

Today, boots of all types are worn for all occasions!

Popular Types of Boots Include:

  1. Ankle Boots
  2. Calf High Boots
  3. Knee High Boots
  4. Thigh High Boots
  5. Slouch Boots
  6. Cowboy Boots
  7. Cowgirl Boots
  8. Construction Boots
  9. Work Boots
  10. Rain Boots
  11. Snake Skin Boots

So many styles of boots to choose from when dancing the Boot Scoot Boogie!

Any time you’re going out for a night on the town and you want to take center stage, slip on a pair of knee high, thigh high or slouch boots and you’ll become all the rage! The best thing about boots? They look great and stay in style no matter what your age!

Get the latest scoop on knee high, thigh high and slouch boots!

A rocking, trendy pair of boots look lovely when worn with skirts and dresses, particularly pencil skirts and miniskirts. Another fantastic way to pull off a beautiful pair of boots is by tucking your straight legged jeans or pants into the leg of the boot. Always in style and sure to give you a fashion plate smile!

I’d walk a mile or more in a glorious pair of boots that I simply adore!

Whether you prefer boots with a flat sole, a wedge sole or heels so high you can touch the sky, I highly recommend giving knee high boots, thigh high boots and the always fashionable slouch boots a try.

My oh my, you and our boots look absolutely magnetic when you strut on by!

Just as you have your own signature style, you probably have your own concept of what beauty and fashion mean to you. With beauty and fashion being a great way to express ourselves, we all develop a unique, individual style that works well for us and shows the world who we are without speaking a word.

Beauty in the realm of fashion can be described as characteristics or attributes that lead to harmony, balance, attraction, and well-being. Beauty, both physical and spiritual, are positive traits that are globally revered and strived for. For most people, beauty entails an overall healthy, balanced, fulfilled lifestyle that pleases our highly visual, aesthetic senses. The characterization of a person as “beautiful”, whether on an individual basis or by community consensus, is often based on some combination of inner beauty, which includes psychological factors such as personality, intelligence, grace, politeness, charisma, integrity and elegance, and outer beauty, which includes physical attributes which are valued on an aesthetic basis.

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder!

Beauty is in some ways a form of pleasure. For those of you that love pampering and treating yourselves, experimenting with makeup, hair, and fashion, you’ve probably noticed that your mood and the way you feel about yourself can be elevated simply by applying makeup on your face, styling your hair, and dressing in a sexy outfit.

Where beauty focuses more on your visual perception of your overall appearance, fashion is the perfect match to complement your looks by handpicking the right clothing, footwear, and accessories. A nice fancy ring on your finger can ramp up your style.

Fashion is your distinctive, signature look. It’s your own personal style. Some people dress in such a unique way that they become known merely by their choice of garments and their signature look (think Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, and Bebe Rexha).

Your personal fashion choices may be influenced by several factors including the film, celebrities, weather, and by clothes that catch your eye and make you feel fantastic when you wear them. The clothes that you drape yourself in are a significant factor in your feelings and your mood. How many times have you thought about what you might wear to an event, only to tell yourself that you’ll sleep on it and see what you feel like putting on in the morning?

The notion of the global fashion industry is a product of the modern age. Prior to the end of the 19th century, most clothing was custom made. By the beginning of the 20th century, with the rise of new technologies and sewing machines, the rise of global capitalism and the development of the factory system of production, including the rise of retail outlets and department stores, clothing came to be mass-produced and sold at fixed prices.

It is true that no matter how you define beauty and fashion, each person needs to come up with what works best for you and fulfill your own beauty and fashion passion!

Makeup and clothing are much more than beauty and fashion, they are a style of life expression of ourselves. Social media is one of the biggest platforms to exhibit and connect beauty and fashion trends with millions of people at once worldwide. Fashion trends go beyond our aesthetic values and emerge as expressive tools for designers to deliver their message about society. With the influence of social media, celebrities and bloggers, their voice is being heard and has a major impact on fashion and style at all times.

From glamour girls to casual chic darlings to the natural you, how you perceive beauty and fashion is distinctively up to you!

How do you define beauty and fashion?

Most of us  have a relationship with our hair. Whether you prefer your hair to be long, short, curly or straight, the color and hairstyle you choose is important. Having strong, shiny, healthy, vibrant hair not only radiates youthfulness and beauty, but makes you feel confident and assured.

Hair is actually a protein filament that grows from follicles found in the dermis. Hair is one of the defining characteristics of mammals. The human body, apart from areas of glabrous skin, is covered in follicles which produce thick terminal and fine vellus hair. Our most common interests in hair is focused on hair growth, hair types and hair care.

There are many ways to keep your hair happy and healthy, including hair products, diet, washing and drying and hair care, such as hair trims.

How to Keep Your Hair Healthy and Happy:

  • Hair Products – Products such as hair masks, deep conditioners, shampoos and conditioners and serums all help soften, nourish and moisturize your hair. Using products that help fight frizz, leave in conditioners, mousse and products that add heat protection will help you maintain healthy and happy hair!

  • Diet – Your hair needs to be fed just like your body. To ensure healthy hair you need a diet high in protein, iron, B Vitamins and water.  Foods such as salmon and white meat chicken, walnuts, eggs, spinach and fruits and vegetables nourish your hair, making it strong, shiny and vibrant. Feed your hair a nutritious protein diet and watch it grow!

  • Washing and Drying – Although many of us wash our hair daily, this isn’t necessary.  The longer, thicker, curlier and more processed your hair, the longer it can go between washes. Use gentle moisturizing and nourishing shampoos and follow up with a good conditioner. When your hair is wet, always use a thick toothed comb over a brush to prevent breakage. Towel dry gently or use a low heat blow dryer. Air drying is best for saving the integrity of your hair.

Hair stylists advise you to get a trim every 6 to 8 weeks. I don’t trim my hair that often and it still grows without breakage. When I do get a trim I merely go 1/4 inch. When you tie your hair up or back, use material bands over rubber bands to prevent hair pulling out.  Whether your have hair that is naturally straight, wavy, curly or kinky, our hair is one characteristic that defines us. For gorgeous, glorious, terrific tresses, these easy steps will help your hair to be one of your full, radiant, beautiful and best assets!

Give me a head with hair! Short or long, from here to there. True beauty is heightened by our hair!
