All glamour girls know that one secret to a perfect makeup job is applying just the right amount of concealer and foundation to your face. Both concealer and foundation are used to make the skin appear more uniform in color and blemish free. Generally, concealers are more heavily pigmented than foundations and can be used alone or applied underneath a light coat of foundation.

To differentiate between the two cosmetics, concealer is used to mask dark circles, age spots. large pores and other small blemishes visible on the skin. It is similar to foundation, but thicker, and used to hide different pigments by blending the imperfection into the surrounding skin tone. Foundation is a skin colored makeup applied to the face to cover flaws and/or change the natural skin tone. Some foundations also function as moisturizers, sunscreens and astringent base layers.

In a complete facial makeover, concealer is applied first and foundation is applied over the concealer. This gives you the canvas for applying various cosmetics to your face and creating makeup magic!

Although concealers and foundations add a gorgeous glow to your skin when applied correctly, if used too heavily and the cosmetics don’t match your skin tone, they can turn into makeup that cakes up! So how do you apply the perfect amount of concealer and foundation that makes your skin look youthful and near makeup free?

How to Avoid Makeup Cake Face:

1. Do not apply a thick foundation over your entire face. Foundation is meant to even out your skin tone, but when applied it should be almost invisible. Dot concealer on any ruddy or blemished areas, then cover up uneven spots like the cheeks, around the nose and the chin with foundation.

2. As we age, our skin tends to lose moisture. This can lead to makeup cake face. Keep your skin as moisturized as possible by drinking lots of water and applying a moisturizing cream to your face underneath the concealer and foundation.

3. Apply a foundation primer. Foundation primers settle into your pores, fine lines, wrinkles, and even out blemishes so that your foundation glides on smoothly.

4. Make sure your concealer and foundation match your skin tone.

Concealers and foundations come in both powder and liquid formulas. For gorgeous, glowing skin with no makeup cake up, brush a small amount of translucent face powder over your foundation. This will create a blemish free base to work with when applying eye shadow, blush and lip gloss, as well as blend your concealer and foundation together to give off a “perfect” face!

Both concealers and foundations are available in a variety of shades, although concealers tend to be more  heavily pigmented. When applying foundation, try to match your skin tone or go one shade darker than your natural skin tone to avoid makeup lines and see preferred results. Concealers with yellow undertones are used to hide dark circles. Don’t go with white concealers as this can sometimes cause a gray hue where applied.

Love the skin that you’re in by applying just the right amount of concealer and foundation, ensuring your makeup flatters your face and doesn’t cake up!

You now look magnificent. Go attend that brunch, concert, baby shower or birthday party in style. Let the only cake in the room be on the table and not your face! Win the makeup glamour race with your exquisite cosmetic taste!
