Most people think of the colors orange and black relating to autumn, Halloween and Thanksgiving. Although wearing these two colors together does look seasonal, orange and black garments work well all year round. Autumn, known as fall in North American English, is one of the four temperate seasons, marking the transition from summer to winter, beginning in September in the Northern Hemisphere and March in the Southern Hemisphere. Fall is when the duration of daylight becomes noticeably shorter and the temperature cools down considerably from the summer months. One of the main features of fall is the shedding of leaves from trees and the changing of color. Many leaves change from green to rich golds, yellows and oranges.

Season Fun Fact: Many people believe that the changing of seasons occurs due to the rotation of the earth and the proximity of where you live to the sun. This actually doesn’t make much difference in temperature. The changing of the seasons is due to the axis of the earth and the slight tilt of that axis!

In the United States fall begins on September 21 and ends on December 21, transitioning us into winter. In the United States, Halloween and Thanksgiving are recognized and celebrated, with pumpkins, gourds, sweet potato pie, witches, broomsticks and many other festivities with the colors orange and black. In the fall, dressing in garments of orange and black is back!

The color orange is bold, brazen and fun. In color psychology, orange radiates warmth and happiness, combining the physical energy of red and the cheerfulness of yellow. The color orange represents the optimism, uplifting and rejuvenation or our spirit. Orange is such a bright, happy color that it helps us bounce back from disappointments and despair, assisting in the recovery from grief.

The color black is sexy, diplomatic, secretive and mysterious. In color psychology black gives us protection from external emotional stress. Black is the absorption of all color and the absence of light. Black hides, while white brings to light. Black covers, white uncovers. Mix orange and black for a fashion passion heart attack!

Since orange is such a bright, bold color, some people prefer to wear less subtle shades or orange. For those of you that adore orange but feel the color is too powerful or brazen for you, why not wear various shades of orange? There is peach, golden orange, amber, burnt orange and dark orange. Another way to wear orange in a fun, youthful way is through your cosmetics. Orange eye shadows, lipsticks and nail polishes conjure up images of frivolity, festivities and fancy fun!

You can always dress in black or white and let your orange and black purse or handbag do the fall fashion talking!

The color black in fashion is often seen as a color of sophistication and elegance, as in the little black dress or the black tie event. Affluent and success oriented men and women often select black clothing as it can give an impression of elegance, sophistication, power and confidence. Black is associated with sexiness and seduction (think black lingerie) and is one of the most widely worn colors in clothing.  Black clothing looks formal, dignified and sensual.

Mix your black garments with orange clothing to add a splash of stimulation and pizzazz to your outfit. Orange is a warm and inviting color, is highly noticeable and gets people thinking and talking. You do the walking and let your garments do your confident, flirty talking!
