Most of us see the fall and winter as a time when the days get shorter and the weather cools down. What is heating up this fall/winter 2018 is neon colors on the catwalk and in the stores. One shade that is particularly pleasing and popular is hot pink. All colors of pink clothing make a confident, bold fashion statement, but the hotter the pink, the hotter the look.

All pink garments are glorious, I think!

Pink is a pale red color named after the flower of the same name. The color pink is made by mixing red and white. For darker pinks, go more red. For paler pinks, add more white. Pink was first used as a color name in the late 17th century. According to surveys in Europe and the United States, pink is the color most often associated with charm, politeness, sensitivity, tenderness, sweetness, childhood, femininity and romance.

Pink Color Fun Fact: The color pink is associated with chastity and innocence when combined with white, but associated with sultry seduction when combined with purple or black.

When dressed in hot pink you can cause a fashion heart attack.

Pink Fun Fact: Pink wasn’t a common color in the fashion of the Middle Ages; nobles preferred brighter reds, such as crimson. However, pink appeared in women’s fashion, and in religious art, in the 13th and 14th century. During the Renaissance, pink was mainly used for the flesh color of faces and hands.

In color psychology, pink represents compassion, nurturing and love. Pink relates to unconditional love and understanding, and the giving and receiving of care. Pink garments are often viewed as romantic, feminine, girly and dainty.

Positive Traits Associated With Pink:

  1. Romantic Love
  2. Unconditional Love
  3. Compassion
  4. Understanding
  5. Romance
  6. Nurturing
  7. Warmth
  8. Hope
  9. Calmness
  10. Sweetness
  11. Naivete
  12. Femininity
  13. Intuitive Energy

Low rise fashion is a style of clothing designed to sit low on, or below, the hips.  The style is also known as hip hugger, lowcut and hipster fashion, and applies to garments worn by both men and women. Low rise garments include pants, jeans, shorts, skirts and bikinis.

The rise of a bottom garment is measured by the distance between the crotch and the waistline, or top of the garment, and is usually around 12 inches (30 cm) on regular pants. The average rise of a low-rise garment is approximately 8 inches (20 cm) with some as little as 3 to 4 inches (7.6 to 10.2 cm). A normal low rise sits at least 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 cm) below the navel. A super or ultra low-rise sits 4 to 5 inches (10 to 13 cm) below the navel.

The low rise fashion expanded in the early 1990s after the March 1993 issue of the British magazine The Face featured Kate Moss in low rise jeans.

Clothing manufacturer Levi Strauss & Co. introduced low rise jeans in December 2000, the top of which were about 3 inches (7 1/2 cm) below the navel. This style was later adopted for men’s wear as well. Gradually the wide acceptance of low rise pants by men led to low rise swimwear and briefs.

Popular Styles of Low Rise Pants:

  1. Boot Cut
  2. Flared
  3. Loose
  4. Straight
  5. Baggy
  6. Skinny
  7. Boyfriend
  8. Slim
  9. Low Waisted

Low rise pants look great when worn with tucked in blouses and a belt. If you wish to show off your toned abs, why not wear a crop top with your low rise pants?

Low Rise Pants Fun Fact: State Legislator Derrick Shepherd of the state of Louisiana in the United States made an attempt in 2004 to outlaw low rise jeans, particularly to bring a halt to the display of underwear under the pants, claiming it to be disrespectful and obscene. People spotted with the “whale tale” or “boxers showing” would have been fined $500.00 if the bill had become law. The bill, HB 1703, was rejected by the Louisiana House of Representatives.

The real low down on low rise (low waisted) pants!

Whether you wear your low rise pants as a way to display more skin at your waist, torso and hips, or if you wear your low rise slacks to clearly look cool and hip, there is no denying that when dressed in low rise pants you’ll love it!

Who’s got the look? You when donned in a lovely pair of low rise pants!

Popular Styles of Low Rise Pants:

How many of you get dressed in the morning in a cozy, flexible, comfortable T-shirt dress and then slip your feet into sneakers? I personally would consider a nice pair of high heels or jeweled sandals as the best shoes to wear with my T-shirt dress, but the style of mixing the dress and tennis shoes together has become widely popular. So much so that I now find the look cute and girly.

Many people who work in offices wear high heels with their office dresses or dress suits, then slip into tennis shoes on their breaks and lunch time to do some walking. The style now is to simply wear you sneakers all day and night long, to offset your trendy T-shirt dress. A mix and match fashion statement at its best!

Sneakers, also known as athletic shoes, tennis shoes, gym shoes, sports shoes, runners and trainers, are shoes primarily designed for sports or other forms of physical exercise, but which are now also worn for everyday footwear. Sneakers have flexible soles made of rubber or synthetic material and an upper part made with leather or synthetic fabrics.  The name “sneakers” originally referred to how quiet the rubber soles were on the ground, in contrast to noisy standard hard leather sole dress shoes. If you wear sneakers you can sneak up on someone, while someone wearing heels or hard soled shoes cannot.

Sneakers Fun Fact: The name “sneaks” is used by prison inmates to refer to warders because of the rubber-soled shoes they wore.

Notable Brands of Sneakers Include:

Adidas, Air Jordan, Brooks, Converse, Diadora, Dunlop, Ethletic, Hummel, Kappa, Keds, Lescon, Merrell, Mizuno, Nike, PF Flyers, Pro-Keds, Puma, Reebok, Skechers, Umbro, Vans and Yeezy.

Popular Types of Sneakers:

  1. High Tops (Cover the ankle).
  2. Low Tops (Expose the ankle).
  3. Mid-Cut Sneakers (In-between high tops and low tops).
  4. Sneaker Boots (Extend to the calf).
  5. Slip-Ons (Expose the ankles and don’t have shoe laces).

T-shirt dresses and sneakers aren’t only for office breaks!

T-shirt dresses normally have short sleeves and a round neckline, much like the T-shirt. T-shirt dresses are made of cotton textile in a stockinette or jersey knit and have a distinctively pliable texture compared to dresses made of cloth or finer fabrics. The hemlines of T-shirt dresses vary from miniskirt to ankle length, depending on the cut of the garment and your personal preference. No matter the length, T-shirt dresses paired with sneakers gives off a youthful, fun, sexy vibe.

Whether you’re walking down the street, strutting through the mall or merely dressing hip, mixing T-shirt dresses and tennis shoes definitely gives off a look and style that says “I have it and I know it!”

Get the “it” factor when dressed in a trendy T-shirt dress and sassy sneakers.

Most everyone has a favorite color, and there is no denying that bold, beautiful, bountiful colors add a vibrancy and splendor to our surroundings. Color is the characteristic of human visual perception described through color categories, with names such as red, yellow, green, blue, purple and pink, to name  few. On the color wheel, colors such as red, orange and yellow are known as warm colors and exude a masculine influence, while colors such as blue, green and purple are referred to as cool colors with a feminine vibe.

In fashion, colors speak loudly. Although neutral tones of blacks and whites are always stylish, neon, bold, bright colors are making a big splash on the Fall/Winter 2018 catwalk!

The psychology of color is one of the most interesting aspects of fashion, branding and marketing. Did you know that yellow is psychologically the happiest color in the color spectrum? It’s always been my favorite color as it represents sunshine, warm days and happiness.  If you’ve done any online or in-store clothes shopping recently, you’ll see garments in yellows, oranges, greens and purples are huge, much like during the decadent years of the 1980s and 1990s. Wearing effervescent colors not only stands out to others, but they make you as the wearer feel good and cheerful as well.

If you want to stand out in a crowd, think pink. The brighter and more neon shades of pink make you noticeable and stunning. No matter what you think of the color pink (too girly, too feminine, too dainty) when dressed in pink fashions you’ll show your passion for finer fashion.

If you tend to dress in more basic colors, such as navy blue, gray, black or white, you can add some pizzazz and bang to your outfit through colorful shoes and purses. Imagine wearing an all black outfit and carrying a neon yellow handbag! Or add a roaring red purse to your white silk pantsuit. Then slip your feet into beautiful colored pumps and you’ve elevated your overall outfit to runway status!

Fall/Winter 2018 brings colored clothing back to the catwalk!

Bold colors in clothing exude clarity, warmth, cheerfulness, confidence, boldness and youthfulness. Beautiful bright colors come across as optimistic, friendly and exciting. In a study titled “Impact of Color on Marketing”, researchers found that up to 90% of snap judgements made about products can be based on color alone. If you doubt this, think about automobiles. The color of the car has a huge impact on the looks and preference of the auto. You can take a vehicle that is the same year, make and model, but depending on the color of the car, the car can look either cool and classy or standard and average. The same car; a different color!

Color makes an extreme difference in the look of your outfit and how you feel when wrapped in the clothing! Cheerful colors equals a cool mood and a positive attitude!

Colors both influence and show windows of our personality. Think ravenous reds and bashful blues. Think of your own perceptions of various colors. Perhaps you see red as exciting, pink as feminine, brown as rugged, green as cool, etc. In much the same way as you perceive the colors, you will feel these same feelings when you wear clothing in these colors. If you think of black clothing as sophisticated and cool, you’ll feel elite and sexy when adorned in black garments.
Harness the powerful effects of color in clothing and step into Fall/Winter 2018 like the colorful fashion queen that you know you are. A colorful clothing star!

If you’re familiar with the shampoo and conditioner aisles in stores and salons, you’ve probably seen certain hair products that contain argan oil. You may have even wondered what exactly is argan oil and what does the oil do? Argan oi is a plant oil product produced from the kernels of the argan tree that originated in Morocco. In addition to cosmetic purposes, argan oil is used as a dip for bread or to drizzle on pasta and other noodles.

For centuries, dating back at least as far as 600 BC, the Phoenicians relied upon argan oil for healing and enhancing beauty. Argan oil definitely nourishes the skin and hair.

Argan oil works wonders on hair and skin because the oil is rich in Vitamin A, C and E, as well as being loaded with antioxidants, linoleic acid and Omega-6 fatty acids. When applied topically, the oil helps boost cell production which results in healthier skin and hair.

Ways Argan Oil Benefits Hair:

  1. Eliminates dandruff and dry scalp.
  2. Makes hair flow sleek and sexy by taming frizz and flyaways.
  3. Nourishes dry, flaky, brittle hair for a smooth appearance.
  4. Provides your hair with a shiny, glistening look.
  5. Help you manage and style your hair.

Argan Oil: the optimum oil for smooth, silky hair!

Argan Oil Fun Fact: The fruit of the argan tree is small, round, oval or conical. The nut contains one to three oil rich argan kernels. To extract the kernels, workers dry argan fruit in the open air and then remove a fleshy pulp. Extraction yields from 30% to 50% of the oil from the kernels, depending on the extraction method.

How to Determine Pure Argan Oil:

  1. The ingredients list should say 100% argan oil.
  2. Pure argan oil has a mild, nut type aroma.
  3. The texture of the oil should be thick and not watery.
  4. Make sure the oil is cosmetic grade oil and not roasted.

Truth be told, use argan oil shampoo and condition for sleek, sexy hair that is pure gold!

For incredibly sexy, shiny, exquisite hair use argan oil products as the great moisturizer. In addition to wash and rinse argan oil hair products, argan oil can be used as a leave in conditioner, taming frizz and working to repair and eliminate split ends.

Argan oil for hot, happening hair, because in the end, you and your hair are worth it!

Any hair or skin product containing argan oil is a definite health and beauty bargain!

Even if you aren’t a true beach fan, most all of us have a day or two over the summer months when a day at the beach sounds lovely! If not the beach, then lounging by a pool, or taking a swim, is a sure way to beat the summer heat. What about those times when you want to wade in the surf, walk the strand or sit comfortably in a lounge chair, yet you don’t want to do those activities in only your bathing suit? That’s when a sultry sarong or a classic bathing suit cover up will work perfectly for you!

A sarong is a large tube or length of fabric, often wrapped around the waist. The fabric often has woven plaid or checkered patterns, and my be brightly colored by means of dyeing. Many modern sarongs have printed designs, often depicting animals or plants. Did you know that different types of sarongs are worn in different places in the world, notably the lungi in India and the izaar in the Arabian Peninsula?

A true sarong consists of a length of fabric about a yard wide and two-and-a-half yards long. In the center sheet, across the narrower width, a panel of contrasting color or pattern about one foot wide is woven or dyed into the fabric, which is known as the “head” of the sarong. This sheet is stitched at the narrower edges to form a tube. As you step into the tube, you bring the upper edge above the level of the navel (the hem should be level with the ankles),  position the head at the center of the back, and fold in the excess fabric from both sides to the front center, where they overlap and secure the sarong by rolling the upper hem down over itself.  Wahlah, a perfect fit!

Sultry sarongs and bathing suit cover ups!

Hip wrap sarongs make for perfect beach wear by themselves or as a cover up over a bathing suit. Some sarongs have ties, which are long, thin wraps of fabric that you can tie together to prevent the sarong from falling down.

Sarong Fun Fact: The American public is most familiar with the sarong for the dozens of films set in the South Seas, most of them romantic dramas made in the 1930s and 1040s. Dorothy Lamour is by far the actress most linked with the sarong, which was designed by Edith Head. Lamour was nicknamed “The Sarong Girl” by the press and even wore a sarong on occasion in more traditional films.

For all of you fashion divas, you can mix and match your sarong to any garment you have on! Who said sarongs are only beachwear?

Sing your favorite summer song lounging on the beautiful beachside, enjoying the glorious sunshine, eating your favorite food and styling in your sultry sarong. You can’t go wrong!

Diamonds aren’t only a girl’s best friend…guys love the stunning, sparkling gems too!
Diamond jewelry has long been loved, admired and coveted by people. A diamond is a metastable allotrope of carbon, where the carbon atoms are arranged in a variation of the face-centered cubic crystal structure called a diamond lattice. A diamond is less stable than graphite, but the conversion rate from diamond to graphite is negligible at standard conditions.
A diamond is renowned as a material with superlative physical qualities, most of which originate from the strong covalent bonding between its atoms. In particular, a diamond has the highest hardness and thermal conductivity of any bulk material.

Diamond Fun Fact: Most natural diamonds are formed at high temperature and pressure at depths of 140 to 190 kilometers (87 to 118 mi) in the Earth’s mantle. Carbon-containing minerals provide the carbon source, and the growth occurs over periods from 1 billion to 3.3 billion years (25% to 75% of the age of the Earth). Diamonds are brought close to the Earth’s surface through deep volcanic eruptions by magma, which cools into igneous rocks knowns as kimberlites and lamproites.
Diamonds can also be produced synthetically in a HPHT method which approximately stimulates the conditions in the Earth’s mantle. An alternative, and completely different growth technique, is chemical vapor deposition.
Whether your diamonds are natural or synthetic, drape yourself in diamonds for a royal, regal, lavish fit!

Diamond Fun Fact: The name diamond is derived from the ancient Greek adamas, meaning proper, unalterable, unbreakable, untamed. Diamonds are thought to have first been recognized and mined in India, where significant alluvial deposits of the stone could be found many centuries ago along the rivers Penner, Krishna and Godavari. Diamonds have been known in India for at least 6,000 years.
Diamond jewelry has long been loved and lavished by people for centuries, and revered in countries all around the world.

Marketing has significantly affected the image of the diamond as a valuable commodity. N. W. Ayer & Son, the advertising firm detained by De Beers in the mid-20th century, succeeded in reviving the American diamond market. The firm created new markets in countries where no diamond tradition had existed before. N. W. Ayer’s marketing included product placement, advertising focused on the diamond product itself rather than from the De Beers brand, and associations with celebrities and royalty.
Today, diamonds signify wealth, affluence, romance, love and commitment. Marriage anyone? Say it with diamonds for excitement and fun when you’ve found your special one!

Mined rough diamonds are converted into gems through a multi-step process called “cutting.” Diamonds are extremely hard, but also brittle and can be split by a single blow. Therefore, diamond cutting is considered a delicate procedure requiring skills, scientific knowledge, tools and experience.
Issues Considered When Cutting Diamonds:

  1. The hardness of the diamond and the gem’s ability to cleave strongly depend on the crystal orientation. The crystallographic structure of the diamond to be cut is analyzed using X-ray diffraction to choose optimal cutting directions.
  2. Most diamonds contain visible non-diamond inclusions and crystal flaws. The cutter has to decide which flaws are to be removed by the cutting and which could be kept.
  3. The diamond can be split by a single, well calculated blow of a hammer to a pointed tool, which is quick, but risky. It can also be cut with d diamond saw, which is a more reliable but tedious procedure.

After the initial cutting, the diamond is shaped in numerous stages of polishing, which can be performed by technicians.

Flowers have long been admired by humans to beautify the environment, and also as objects representing romance, ritual, religion and medicine. The Spring season has long been admired as a season of rebirth, life, sunshine and abundant flowers.
Fashion is an easy, excellent way to change how we feel, mentally and physically. Wearing lighter, brighter colors can make us feel lively and upbeat, while dressing in dark winter colors can make us feel more subdued. As we bring on the spring season, fill your world and your closet with colorful, youthful, playful, uplifting floral fabrics.

Flower Fun Fact: A flower, sometimes known as a blossom or bloom, is the reproductive structure found in plants that are floral. The biological function of the flower is to effect reproduction, usually by providing a mechanism for the union of sperm with eggs. Flowers contain sporangia and are the site where gametophytes develop. Many flowers have evolved to be attractive to animals, so as to cause them to be vectors for the transfer of pollen. After fertilization, the ovary of the flower develops into fruit containing seeds.

Flower Fun Fact: A flower develops on a modified shoot or axis from a determinate apical meristem (determinate meaning the axis grows to a set size). It has compressed internodes, bearing structures that in classical plant morphology are interpreted as highly modified leaves. Detailed developmental studies, however, have shown that stamens are often initiated more or less like modified stems that in some cases may even resemble shoots. Taking into account the whole diversity in the development of the androecium of flowering plants, we find a continuum between modified leaves, modified stems and modified shoots.
In addition to floral fabrics, floral design includes making wreaths, nosegays, garlands, festoons, floral displays, boutonnieres, corsages and bows.
